I've been eyeballing one and a member on a motorcycle forum I'm a part of just got the 22/45. Just throwing this out there for anyone who already owns one to be careful. Below are is his account of the first outing and his interaction with Ruger.....

OP: The bad news is I'm sending it back to Ruger on Monday, something is VERY ****ed with the safety on it. I've been shooting around 50 years now, never had an unintentional discharge. I HAD TWO TODAY!!! The safety doesn't have a clear click like it normally does, it feels a little mushy with no clear stop on either end. I didn't think too much of it at first.

A thread response: The good news is that Ruger will take care of it one way or another, and probably quickly. Their customer service is pretty good.

OP: That's what I expected too! Got a shock when I spoke to them this morning. First I had a girl in customer service. I told her what happened & she went & spoke to a tech. She returned to the phone & informed me, "They ALL do that! All the Mark IV's do that. It says right in the manual to not pull the trigger unless the safety is all the way off. You should read the manual". I then asked to speak to the tech & he told me, "They ALL do that, some worse than others, it depends on how much friction there is. He owns one himself & his did it too."
I made sure he understood the gun fires by itself when you move the safety & he understood & explained that once I pull the trigger the gun is ready to fire & it will fire when you move the safety. That's why they have a warning in the manual to never have the safety in the wrong spot. I'm right handed & I found with the ambi safety that the right side safety would hit against my hand & was preventing the safety from moving normally. The tech said I should remove the right side, "That's what he did".

I only pull the trigger on any gun I own when I want to shoot something. So I could care less about some dummy who pulls his with the safety on and hopes it will be ok.

The way I read it, if the trigger is pulled while the safety is on, the gun won't fire. But then if the safety is later moved off, the gun fires. That can't be normal and should be a cause for alarm in my book. Regardless of the intelligence of pulling the trigger with the safety on, firing on turning the safety off is a failure.

If the trigger is not being pulled (but has been) and you flick off the safety and it fires, that's BAD. I completely agree with trigger discipline and the 4 rules and they will keep this unintentional discharge from being hazardous but there is no excuse for the the gun to discharge by releasing the safety unless the trigger is being pulled at the same time. Any gun should not discharge by switching off the safety.

Yep, definitely a bad issue. I had an AR that would do it. I forget what the exact problem was but something in the works had been ground by the prior owner. you could see the hammer move slightly when the trigger was pulled, then it would trip when the safety was returned to fire. Scary stuff. A gun should NEVER EVER fire when switched SAFE to FIRE.

I just checked my mkIV and it does not fire when the safety is moved to off after the trigger is pulled.

Since Bill Ruger died a good idea is to wait until the new Ruger has been out on the market for about 6 months before purchasing...By then the recall will be in effect and the new ones coming out will have the fix on them....

    IMHO

I'd rather it be that way, than Bill Ruger being alive and selling the 2A down the river even more...

    Could be anywhere
I can't imagine just pulling the trigger because...let alone twice in one day. And the way he stated it this seemed to be what he did to all the weapons he's shot for the claimed 50 years. I wonder what other stupid things he considers to be SOP.

Just goes to show that if you try to make something idiot proof someone will just be a better idiot.

A gun should not fire when the safety is flipped down, whether you had previously pulled the trigger or not... period.

When you have disassembled a gun, upon reassembly it is standard practice to pull the trigger with the safety on to make sure it is operating properly. Of course it is unloaded at that point, so it wouldn't be an issue.

Link please to the youtube video of the guy demonstrating this issue? I have looked and could find none. If this was a real issue surely there would be a dozen or more videos but again I found none.
