Back in the day I had a G20sf and ended up selling it because I couldn't justify the time and money reloading ammo for a handgun I was only shooting targets at the range with. Now that it's fair game for deer hunting, and factory ammo is getting much more affordable I am thinking about it again. This may also go as a side arm if I ever go on a trip to Alaska (fingers crossed for next year).

Primarily though I'll be shooting the gun just for fun, but there's a very real potential of using the gun to put some meat on the table. My first instinct was to look at either the G40 10mm or a gen 4 G20 10mm, but that's because I'm not all that familiar with all the new offerings in the 10mm world of pistols.

    Any suggestions would be great.

Dan Wesson Bruin. One of the EAA offerings. Those would be ones I'd look at.

If I wanted "great accuracy" my default wouldn't be to look at a glock

Yep... A 6" DW Bruin is one of my holy grail guns. A little pricey, but what a spectacular handgun!

If I was going to drop some big bucks on what I am sure would be a very accurate 10mm...

Not really "trying" to drop the big bucks if I don't need to. I read an interesting article from Chuck hawks about the G40 vs the Sig. Sort of shocked me on both guns.

Don't forget the older S&W 10mm's. Built like tanks, great accuracy and relatively cheap nowadays.

Look into the EAA Tanfoglio Witness. Don't have in 10mm but both my 9mm and 45acp are accurate as all get out and they are priced well. Mine have been extremely reliable, with no failures of any kind, ever. Doesn't matter cheap steel cased, aluminum, brass, hollow points, etc. Never has failed

I'm new to the 10 mm club with a Smith Wesson 1006. Surprised at the accuracy and very soft shooting. As stated above, its a tank...

The Glock 40 (this is going to hurt to say...) is a tough option to beat especially if this might become a field pistol for you. Maybe $750 give or take. Optic Ready.

Two years ago I bought a 10mm barrel for my Thompson Contender.
It was a range toy at the time.
Now, with the rule changes, it's possible it may take a deer.

I have a S&W 1006 gives around 3" @ 25 yards. I have a custom EAA that gives 2 1/2" -3" at 25 yards. My 6" STI 2011 Perfect 10 will give me 2" at 25 yards. I carry the STI about 90% of the time. The factory ammo is down loaded. If you want a full bore 10mm you need to hand load.

If you go this route and used, you want a full size and all steel. The poly's and the compacts have issues with slide/frame cracking. I've been half-assed looking and nice witness steel 10mm are going up in price and becoming scarcer. Currently going in the $520 to $620 range. Quite some time ago the witnesses had a firing pin recall, too; but I don't know if these guns were affected

My only experience with 10mm is my Glock 40 with Vortex Viper that I bought as a package for $800. I have only shot Armscor 180gr, Sig Elite 180gr. and Hornady Custom 240gr. XTP, which I plan to deer hunt with. I need to bench it and see how it does at 50 and maybe 75, but at 25 and in it does the job just fine. I am interested in the Glock 29SF and the Remington R1 Longslide in the bronze color for a 1911. I can afford that one compared to the premium 1911's mentioned above.

I'm starting to lean more towards the regular G20 Gen 4. The G40's have always felt clumbsy in my hands and seem a little big to carry holstered for long miles. With the G20 I could always swap a barrel and have more velocity or greater accuracy. Just thinking out loud on this.
