Hi all - I am the proud new owner of a Dan Wesson Specialist (railed Valor).
Love it, love it, love it. It came with VZ operator II grips, that have the "golf ball" checkering on front half. This was a bit too aggressive after handling the gun a while.
I knocked the bite out of them, just a bit, by giving them about 15-20 passes with some sandpaper (by hand, 400 grit i believe - and removed from the gun, of course).
So much better -- still plenty aggressive, but the bite of the golf ball pattern is perfect for me now.

    Pics to follow :)

Cool. Way to work with what you have!

I bought a pair of Gatorbacks for my 1911 after checking out the Operators. I really like the "grip" of the Gatorbacks. Goldilocks all around.:)

I had to do the same to mine...Made a world of difference...I was having trouble finding grips that looked good on this model 19 someone had duracoated and someone traded in a model 15 to the shop with these VZ grips on them and I "liberated" them...He said they were rough on the hand and about 3 minutes with some fine sandpaper took care of that.....

Looking forward to pics! I like doing things hands on and trying to make my own stuff work for me.

Me too. I used to be so afraid to alter anything on a gun -- but that's like wearing the wrong shoes and having the right ones in your closet.
Especially grips, the single easiest thing to change/replace if needed.
