I love 22 calibers and I have the Ruger GP100 10 shot SS that I bought new ($600, Hoosier Armory) since I couldn't find anything used back in May.
I have refrained from buying any other 22s, except for a Smith Victory, which I shot at the range once and sold it b/c I preferred revolvers.
I have been on a quest buying and selling 9mm, having fun, with a few 38s along the way.

But, my interest has been piqued by the large 911 45 caliber frames for the 22.
I have dismissed some b/c of negatives I've read, like the Chiappa, plus someone was selling it for $250 and new they are $205ish at Hoosier Armory (my benchmark for prices on new b/c they sell out of their converted garage in Carmel: low overhead, lower prices).

There is a Sig Sauer for $350 available, but, I don't want to pay that much for it, maybe I should, but I'll have to do more research. It is new and unfired, therefore I assume premium price.
I try to buy my used guns $100-$200 less than new prices (at Hoosier Armory). Maybe only $50 less if it is a $200ish gun.
I think Baretta a nice one also.
The Colt and Kimber will be too expensive for my amateur/newbie tastes.
I have bought all of my guns since May for $300 or under, except for my Smith 64 and Ruger 22.

I don't know if it will be so similar to the Victory that i shouldn't bother, or if the larger frame and heaviness of a 911 frame will make it more fun.
If Point Blank in Carmel or Tim's Shooting in Westfield had them to rent it would be great, but I don't thiink so: not much in 22 caliber for obvious reasons.

    Any feedback appreciated.

I'm in the market for the same thing, we were practicing for a steel plate match last week and one of regular guys in the group brought along a Colt gold cup trophy .22lr and I ran a mag through it when we were done.

The accuracy of it was nothing short of amazing, and probably a best case scenario for getting what you pay for if they all run that way.

Most days I wouldn't have taken a second look at one let alone paid the price but Springfield doesn't make one and that darn Colt ran so well it's worth every penny.

I think the GSG 1911 is the best. It seems like they pop up on here for $250 or so and aren't much more than that new. They also make the S&W model but it's more expensive.

GSG 1911 has the best mags and 1911 feel.

    1. Yes, there is nothing like having quality in one's hand to break down the barriers of "thriftiness."
    2. This is why if I go to buy a car I never drive anything but my Corolla/Civic genre b/c I know I'll love the more expensive cars and never be happy again. :dunno:
    3. I'd love to buy the Sig Sauer 911-22, but it is $350 firm, so I don't want to waste his time unless I found out they sold for much more new.

Hmm, I didn't know Sig made one. Does it have an adjustable rear target sight like the Colt? I really want an adjustable rear sight I've got piles of different lots of .22 ammo and a fixed sight would drive me nuts target shooting with it.

I am going to pick up a Browning 1911-22A1.They run 525.00 and up.It is alot of money. It is 85%the size of a full size 1911.The smaller size fits the wife and daughter perfect. It is still not to small for a man to shoot.Again,it is a lot of money, but it is a keeper.

    1. If I get one I want a full-sized heavy 911 frame.
    2. Thanks for the heads-up on the Browning; I had read this am that one of the brands did that, but all the info is starting to run together.

I have owned a few of these and currently have one. The Mags can get a bit spendy but they are very well made.
Mine is the threaded Barrel model and it is a tack driver. Eats about anything including Sub-Sonic and runs extremely well suppressed.
$250 is an avg. price but new they run $340 or so depending on where you buy.

No knock on the gold Cup etc's.

The Sig is the same thing as a GSG. The Colt is just licensed and made by Umarex/Walther. I own the Sig. It is an okay plinker and is a good trainer for shooting 1911. Some parts are a direct swap with 1911s. However, unless you have to have an exact 1911 replica, I'd recommend a Ruger 22/45 over any of the diecast Zinc GSG/Walther types. A Ruger or Browning Buckmark are guns that you can shoot your whole life and pass down to your kids. They also hold their value extremely well. IMO, the diecast stuff is a nice copy of the 1911 but just won't hold up as well.

The Browning 1911 is a good option if you have small hands and can find one in your budget. However it isn't a full size 1911 and parts do not interchange.

    1. I researched just enough to understand and appreciate everything you said.
    2. No, I don't want a Browning 3/4 size, the point in being tempted with the 1911 style is to get a big heavy 1911"wannabe."
    3. I had read where the diecast Zinc types were a disappointment in how they wear.
    4. I looked up the Ruger 22/45 and it was a shorter barrel and lighter than some of the other "big" 1911s I don't understand that unless it is not a "full-sized" 911.

OK, I'm not totally OCD, and not one to correct spelling, but this is driving me nuts. Why do you keep calling it a 911 instead of a 1911? :):

I just bought this evening, after painting a door, and getting the driveway "painted," a Sig Sauer 1911-22 pistol.
I just made it to the range in time before it closed and ran 200 rounds through it: wonderful!
I'm going to get pics going and start a thread about it.
I bought it off someone who was reading the thread (Dddress) and he pmed my and let me know he had one in the safe he was going to sell.
    Never been shot!!!

But I'll save the details for later.

    1. Because I obviously can't read. :dunno:
    2. I'm truly embarrassed: you'd think I would notice, but it never registered after all the reading and seeing it on the guns, etc. :stickpoke:
    3. I'm going to have to move to another state and change my name now.
