The Hammer

Picked up another Colt Pocket Hammer today, good shape for 100 years old. These were the "commander" version of the Colt 1902 which is pictured above it. Chambered in 38ACP, a powerful cartridge in it's day, the Hammer's only safety was the half cock notch like an old Winchester. These guns were the ancestors of the vastly more popular 1911 which had a number of improvements made by John Browning besides the caliber. I've fired these guns extensively and they point well, making up some for the poor sights. Colt ended production in 1928, the guns were in a spot being larger and heavier than the popular Colt Hammerless pocket autos and the powerful 1911.
