I was watching G&A TV and they showed a Desert Eagle chambered in .44 DE. It's a 50 AE case necked down to a .44 cal bullet. A 210 gr load was at 1850 fps. The 240 gr load was at 1700 fps. I can't find any info online about it right now. My googlefu is waning. So I took a picture of the TV.

Is there someone out there thinking, "Golly gee, if only this .44 mag or 50 AE were hotter?"

I seen the same TV show, I've never cared for Desert Eagles, but this could change that.

Getting close to riffle velocities there. That's 1596ft-lbs and 1540ft-lbs of energy respectively.
Seems to be between the top end of 50AE and the low end of 500 SW MAG.
Either way it would hurt. ;-)

I was kinda wondering where this load stood in comparison to some of the other big hitters. The .454 Casuall is pushing a 240 gr at 1,900 fps out of a 7.5" barrel. The .500 S&W is way ahead.

Looks like it's very similar if not the same as the .440 Corbon. I believe the desert eagle was chambered for .440 corbon years ago and was discontinued. I always thought it looked like a cool cartridge.

That's right. It's the same dang thing!

I wonder why they just didn't revive it instead of making a new caliber? Maybe they just want their own cartridge.
