Why aren't there reference marks on fixed sight pistols? Would it be raise the price of a pistol that much to put a small reference mark on the rear sight and a few on the slide by the dovetail? Is it that there is no demand for them? Is it because of the "close enough" mentality that seems to permeate our society these days?

You mean like witness marks? A center punch works, or if you want something less permanent, tape and a pen. Or WhiteOut.
Thanks for the tips. I usually use a sharp pencil mark and it works ok. To get that last 1" windage adjustment at, say 25 yards, takes a real fine line. I'm just thinking that manufacturers provide adjustable sights with click adjustments. Wouldn't it be nice if they gave us fixed sight pistols with permanent reference marks?

    I guess I'm with Alpo...

Something to indicate that the sight has moved might be useful

But how often are you adjusting the sights on a pistol?
POA = POI, then keep it right there...

Actually, I thought it might also be useful when replacing sights, if the new sight had a center reference tic mark.

    Yes, that would not hurt.

Since most final adjustments on installation or later sight corrections only require movements of a few to several thousands of an inch, I eyeball center on installation and use digital calipers to measure moves for any needed corrections.
