    Seems interesting.
    Entry level Dan Wesson.
New price: $1230 at Hoosier Armory.
Am I missing something or is this going to go quickly since it is supposed to be quality?
Dan Wesson Heritage, in box with papers and both mags. Three sets of grips, barrel flush cut, front strap checkered, frame bobtailed. Rear night sight added
If I was going to experiment with a 45 1911, would this be easier to resell later than other 1911 or all about the same?
A new Ruger SR 1911 Government model can be bought for $710 and a used one there for $599.
Should a person go for the used Ruger instead of the used Dan Wesson for all the obvious reasons for a newbie?

It has been my experience that it is harder to find a buyer for more expensive firearms.
When I look at an ad, I look at everything in the pic. If that is the owner's house/room, a complete mess. Will I get everything that came with the gun? Or is it lost in the mess?
Is the owner of the pistol too lazy to take better pics for a $1000 dollar pistol?
You can bet your A$$, I don't post ads like that.

Kimbers are hit and miss. I owned a Kimber years ago, it was pretty, and it was a turd as well.
The only turd that one can actually polish.

    1. I was warned about Kimber from someone that is knowledgeable.
    2. I posted these (and keep adding to the list) and there are more, some even less expensive.
    3. It makes me wonder if I should go to my default profile: used Ruger for $600?
    4. I totally agree and it has been my experience that it is hugely easier to sell a less expensive gun if it is considered top tier, and it doesn't need to be "over-the-top-tier."
    5. Translation: a good $600 gun will sell quicker than a great $1000 gun.
    6. I could be wrong: I'm a newbie. I only know what others tell me.
    7. I was even told to go buy a basic Rock Island new, several models in the $400s, but was warned away from them also.

I would suggest staying away from the Kimber. The good ones are really good but the fickle ones are many.

Of your choices, I’d pick the SW. I’ve said it before but they are underrated. Good guns and good factory service.

The easiest to resell is probably the Ruger.

If I was going to buy a DW, I’d bump up the product line a little more.

Have to agree about the Smith, love mine. And the DW as well, the one in the pic is to "plane jane" for me. It does have front strap checkering and a skeleton hammer, outside of that, nothing turns me on about that pistol.
    I do like the Smith's.
    Always wanted one of these:
Older Performance Center Smith 1911. Just didn't want to shell out 2K for one.

I got a Ruger SR1911 first, which led to a used DW Specialist, which lead to a DW Silverback. I enjoy shooting all three.

Fair warning...don't handle a Dan Wesson unless you're prepared to buy it.

I personally would get the Dan Wesson, that Heritage is set up almost the same as my Dan Wesson VBOB that is solidly in the $1800 range. For $1000 that Heritage is hands down the best 1911 you can buy full stop end of story with 100% tool steel parts internally and their front strap checkering and Bob Tail is very nice in hand.

I know it's very much out of your "usual" price range but that's a decent deal on a great gun you most likely won't loose money on (though I doubt you would be able to sell it in 11 minutes)

I tend to always buy the gun that I want, not the one that has the best resale value. I buy a gun based on what I want out of a gun first and foremost.

I have a Dan Wesson Silverback and it is an amazing gun in every way. I would buy the Dan Wesson.

Get the used ruger, shoot it, clean it, repeat. Use leftover $$ for more 45acp

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No Kimbers. Just do not take the chance with your 1st 1911. You might get a good one. Then again you might get a turd. To much money for what you get. JMHO of course. If you have Kimbers and you like them good deal.

The quality of the DW is going to be much higher than the other guns you posted. Not that the others aren't good guns (with the possible exception of the Kimber), but it's like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford Focus. Yeah, the Focus will do the same things (mostly), but the Ferrari is still a better car in many regards. The Ruger is a fantastic entry level 1911 for the price. I had one and loved it, but sold it after I realized it wasn't quite the quality I preferred. Again, not that it's bad, because it's not, but the DW Heritage is the best 1911 you can buy at that price point.

I wonder how long doddg has to stay on this forum until he is looking at a Cabot? I am pretty sure his self imposed budget limit has increased three fold in less than a year. I fully support encouraging his (our) addiction.

Doddg - not sure why I am talking about like you are not in the room err...thread. Your threads are definitely fun to follow and we all (rather we admit it not) often go through the same mental exercises in deciding the next purchase unless it is that spur of the moment purchase. You know - the one you forget to tell your wife about!

When it comes to 1911's, it seems that you've gotten a pretty good consensus from some people that still celebrate the birthday of John Moses Browning. So, the choice is down to dollars. Ruger, SW or DW. They go in that order of price and (most likely) ease of resale and reverse that order for "quality".

Again, every time you add a couple hundred to your 1911 budget you will find something else to consider. For example , that $1000 Heritage is nice but sitting next to, say Commander Classic, you will see the extra money.

When you are considering resale, keep in mind that some brands that people on the INGO praise aren't widely known and that can affect your options.
