Hey guys, a while back I inherited some guns from my uncle's father in law. I've been looking for a little more info on one in particular.
It's a star 1911 , all of the serial numbers match, even the magazine. This one has a grip safety and safety is on the frame. Serial number is 42xx. It's stamped 9mm/38 which is 9mm largo or 38 automatic. I'm wanting a know if I can have a 9mm parebellum barrel fit? Here's a few pictures.

Thanks Bigtanker. 9mm parebellum drops pretty far down in the chamber, I'm just wanting to make a shooter out of it.

From the link it looks like an early A. It has the T shaped extractor. No import marks or letters anywhere in the serial numbers. I'll definitely find out more about it and let you know. Thanks for the help. Dan

No markings on the bottom. The magazine has the same serial number and it doesn't have any letters either.

From what I've been reading the Spanish military had some early models rechambered for 38 automatic. That would explain the 38 stamped next to 9mm.
I found some 9mm largo surplus ammo I might order. Definitely want to stay away from 38 super. I'll keep doing some research on it before I change anything. I doubt it has much value but I think it's worth putting some rounds through just for fun.

It looks like a model 1922

    Star Modelo 1922

I have a 20’s/30’s era Llama with similar slide markings. I bought a bunch of 9Largo ammo awhile back but now I generally shoot it with .38 acp (NOT SUPER) level loads. .38 super brass and a 125 gr bullet loaded light and it’s a great shooter.

Starline Brass makes 9mm Largo brass. I have a Llama and an Astra 400, as well as a Spanish Destroyer carbine in 9mm Largo. I have some surplus ammo but also load my own with the Starline brass. You can use standard 9mm dies, just adjust the length of the sizing and seating dies. I even use 9mm luger load data (but with Largo OAL). With the longer cartridge, pressure is not a problem. As others said, do NOT use .38 Super, or 9x21 Win. Both will fit, but are much higher pressure rounds. Surplus ammo can be corrosive or non-corrosive, but I always treat it as corrosive to be safe and clean immediately. I only ordered 500 pieces of the Starline brass, and with no more than I shoot these guns, that will probably last me forever.
