I just picked up a FEG clone of a Browning Hi-Power. It's parkerized, which I'm pretty sure was not the original finish.

I would either like to have it re-blued or cerakoted.

I don't think it has any real value as a collectible, so I'm not concerned about that.

    Suggestions?

Edit: In my quest to make a $300 gun a $500 gun, I would also like to change out the sights. Maybe. Anyone know whether the FEG will take Browning sights?

Send the slide out to be milled for heinies or 10-8s.

Electroless nickel and hard chrime are about the same price these days...same goes for bluing.
$200 for the finish and $100 for the sights.
You will never get you money back out of it, but it can be a good shooter.

For now just stick with new springs, but good suggestions!

Not to hijack but do you have a place you can recommend for hard chrome?

Detail stripped yesterday, mineral spirits bath. Not much gunk but some hardened brownish stuff, maybe cosmoline that wasn't cleaned out properly. Also found the trigger lever was split the entire length. Assuming that may have been causing the gritty trigger release.

The parkerization doesn't look that bad actually, so refinishing can wait.

I had my hi power hard chromed by apwcogan, it was $280 but i had them do some small work too.
There is a local place that does electroless nickel for $180ish, last time i checked...a few years ago.

This also assumes that you send them a fully stripped pistol.

I had Allen do my sight cuts.

    God bless
