Finally reached a compromise, with myself. My Wife ok’d the purchase of a Wilson Combat. But I just can not spend that money . So I bounced around from this one to that, and ultimately now decided I wan a vigil in full size. So the question is am I better off ordering it exactly the way I want it, ie wise notch rear sight, magwell, Clark ribs, memory bump grip safely. Or find someone to do the work post purchase?

    thanks

There was so much wrong with my dan wesson I sold it as a parts gun.
I know Wilson's are expensive, but you are GUARANTEED they will shoot . Wilson WILL stand by their product, and WILL be here in the future.
You don't get that with the other guys. The other guys are cheaper because they are , well,
    Cheaper.

Nighthawk has picked their game up considerably in the last couple of years also. Sometimes it's possible to find a great deal on GunBroker. I picked up a Warhawk there a few months ago that was, what I considered a great deal and I consider it as nice a 1911 as I've ever owned.

There was a period that DW's were for lack of a better word "Crap" and getting a good one was a dice roll.
They have stepped up their game and especially since CZ bought the marque. I have seen several n the last 2 years and they are just well fit up pieces. I recently traded into one and it is nice enough that beyond some critical polishing it will be left alone. As is it is good.

As mentioned above CZ Dan Wessons are solid, when was yours made? If it was a CZ owned Dan Wesson and it made it past QC they would have made it right ASAP

Does the Vigil come with those options available? If they do, I'd look to have it come with what you want on it, unless you have a really good smith that you trust already?

Hoping to hear good reports on the Vigil. I was debating between the Vigil CCO and the ECO, and ended up choosing the ECO (which is FINALLY scheduled to arrive at my FFL today, woot!). I previously had a V-Bob that was lights-out reliable and accurate, and should have kept it in hindsight, but I wasn't as crazy about the bobtail as the more subtly rounded butt mainspring housing I've found to be more ergonomically correct in my hands. Good luck, and keep this thread updated!

I had once decided I would "graduate" to a Wilson Combat and they had some exhibition at Indiana Gun Club that I went to. I don't know if my timing was off, if I wasn't dressed well enough, or what happened, but they didn't give me the time of day. They were extremely worried at the time about where they were going to go to lunch in the area, and didn't offer a single piece of swag or even acknowledge I was at their tables. I would've bought one potentially that day had it gone a different way.

I decided I can definitely spend my money better and since have even stopped buying their parts kits for my AR's. Maybe it was a just a bad day, but for premium pricing, I expect premium service from all aspects of their organization. :twocents:

Beyond some of the super expensive sever duty 1911 pieces I have found much better parts elsewhere. I will still use the 48-D mags as they are in my mind some of the better available for the 1911.

Every company makes a lemon occasionally even WC or DW. Every company drops the ball on customer service occasionally. The good companies ultimately try to make it right once they understand the problem. I see people on a 1911 forum that complain about their Les Baer being too tight and they call Les and explain the issue. You don't get a good response  But if you have an actual problem, he takes care of it. I am sure all of the better companies do the same.

To understand the Baer will be seriously tight before you lay out the cash is common knowledge.

I received a nice email response, from Dan Weesson. Looks like they can do it, I will pay full msrp, and they will quote the add on's looks like it will be about 4 months. I think I am just going to have them build it the way I want that. That way I think it will be too shelf.

I’m sure that you’ll be happy with the Vigil as ordered. I’m up to 4 DW 1911s and have not had an issue with any of them. I only wish that my experience with Colts was the same.

Cool, I didn't know they did custom orders.

Love my DW. Wonderful gun. I am sure you will be happy with whatever you decide, but the DW is one of the best values out there IMHO.

Personally, I would order it stock and then have Allen M. look it over/upgrade it.

OP is in TN. Not impossible as it can be shipped, but not easy as it is for some of us.

I love my DW Specialist -- has most of the mods I would ever want right from the factory.
I tihnk you would come out ahead if you can find the closest factory setup and then just change sights
(machine work after the fact can be very pricey)
