I was able to hold some high-end 1911s for the 1st time on Friday and felt in love with this Dan Wesson Valor Commander. I took it to the range yesterday and OMG!!! I have never shot a nicer shooting gun. It was very smooth and recoil like shooting 9mms. My wife said I haven't smile like that in a long time.

...and felt in love with this Dan Wesson Valor Commander...
BJenkins is right, DW's are hard to beat, and you picked a really good one to fall for. Those grips look great on that gun, and really nice shooting too! I couldn't agree with you more on the DW lineup. I picked up an ECO in 9mm not too long ago that will eventually be an EDC once I get through the break-in period, and more recently the new Vigil commander in 9mm. I haven't shot the Vigil yet, but the ECO is such a sweet and soft shooter, and took no time at all to feel very accurate and confident with it. Both mine have stunning fit-and-finish... every single line or area where one piece of metal meets another looks like it was cut with a microsurgery laser. All this after having a V-Bob several years ago that I just couldn't get into. Maybe it was the bobbed grip, I don't know, but I've done a 180 and am definitely feeling the love for DW's. Good choice OP, and I suspect you'll have many MANY more happy days at the range with your new Valor!

Some of those 1911's can be considered art, that you can shoot (Maybe the best type of art haha), I have several on my "When I'm rich enough for that list". Especially with the support for the platform you can make it your own in so many ways!

I traded into a DW not long ago. Commander. Fit/finish are top shelf for a mass produced piece. This is the only 1911 I have had this long and not touched it. Not sure what needs touching. I will figure it out soon enough but what I am saying is these are very nice pieces.

I have a DW Specialist and a Silverback. Great pistols that I need to take to the range again. I've been too wrapped up in 9mm CZ's lately to take the 45's.

I have a SS Classic in .45, a Valkyrie in 9mm and a Guardian in 38 Super. All are excellent pistols. I love my Colts but the DWs just feel so much more solid and balanced. Dan Wesson’s and CZs are my current favorite lines. 796A7951-1421-4D64-9F1C-ACA5AC40A199.jpg

Some kind of DW 9mm bobtail is on my wish list... Probably the black duty finish. Just not sure which model. Whichever is cheapest, I'm sure.

Hi INGOers, I just found out from my friend that the target with the bulls-eye shot out was at 10 yds. and not 15 yds. like I thought it was at. I just want the record correct and proper! Also are the dw's flat metal base magazines ok? I had no problem with them and I like the way the base is flush with the bottom of the grip. My friends wilson combats's stick just a bit below the grip base.

No problems here with the flush-fit mags. I prefer they way they fit, especially for anything you may want to carry. An extended base plate, or one with a "slam pad", would print more noticeably.

I've ordered spare Metalform and Mec-Gar 1911 magazines as extras. IIRC, the Metalform Magazines are OEM for the ECO (officer-sized). I've used Mec-Gar 1911 mags for my commander. Both brands have worked perfectly fine for me, and are all flush-fitting.

DW Silverback owner as well. I had Allen M. shoot it, and he said the same thing that Churchmouse said above: "I wouldn't do anything to it!"

I thought that was awesome as I was there trying to give him some money to do *something* to the danged thing!!!

    Love it!!!
