    According to Sigforum, Clay Pigeon is right.
    Value would be (Totally guessing) from 400 to 600 depending on condition, and what all it comes with.
    I bought a cpo in DAK a couple of years ago for less.
    I'm not a DAK guy, but it's perfectly adequate to the cause.

    At the Ranch.
    Look for a 2 digit date code under the front dust cover...

    A = 0
    B = 1
    C = 2
    D = 3
    E = 4
    F = 5
    G = 6
    H = 7
    J = 8
    K = 9

    Used .40 226's are quite common right now as dept trade-ins. A lot of DAK triggers too.
    I found a nice JK '89 226 9mm a few years ago with original yellow box, papers, original receipt, extra mag for $500.

    Nice looking setup... You gotta love 226's.

    New they are going $830-$930 on GunBroker

    Irrelevant. $400-$500 is what they are selling for used. A little more if you have the .357 Sig barrel.

    The value of standard P226 pistols in .40 or .357 has dropped like a rock, given the influx of police trade-ins and large number of people switching back to 9mm, and the declining popularity of DA/SA pistols in general.

    waiting on one to finish still but you are probably right.

    Use "advanced search" and you can search completed auctions.

    https://www.gunbroker.com/search/advanced then select "completed" tab and enter the criteria you want.

    DA/SA are routinely going for $360 +/- $30 in used condition. Mid to upper $400s for as new or for used two tones. $500 for certified red labels.

    https://www.gunbroker.com/item/779853518

    Etc.

    They are a good value right now. The P226 is a nice gun to shoot .40 from. I wouldn't pay more than $350 for a base Nitron, though. Example of a real nice condition one for $350: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/779339793

    Umm, that won't work. His is a milled slide 226 in 40. Date codes are only present for W.German/German made 226s with stamped slides in 9mm.

    I'm about 99.9% sure that code will work on all german made/german assembled sigs, my browning bda45 (sig p220) has hh in the slide (77) and they (browning) only imported the bda from 77-80, my german made/german assembled 226 is coded jg (86) (both stamped slides)

    my other 220 is a west german made milled slide, and doesn't have the date code (like the op's gun) but does have a mold mark on the grips (December 99 I think)

    op, if you remove the grips, look on the insides for a mold date, its not the best way to find out, and will only work if you have the original grips with the gun, that might help narrow down the date. (if you have the original plastic box, it'll have a mold date in it too)

    the best way to make sure of the manufacture date is to contact sig sauer and ask them.

    as for the price, I agree with most people on the 4-500 dollar price, unfortunately, the .40/357 sig calibers just don't have the market value as 9mm/45 sigs do. (with both barrels I do think its closer to 500)

    fyi I work in a gun shop, and I cant remember the last time someone asked for a sig in 40 or 357, we've got a beautiful used p239 with 3 holsters, night sights, and 3 mags, that's had 0 (yes zero) interest shown!

    if you're willing to hold onto it, you'll find a buyer eventually, but I honestly believe it wont be a quick sale

    Yes, that's what I'm saying. His is a MILLED slide in 40/357 and therefore won't have a code. I have 11x Sigs that all have German/W. German frames. Date codes are present on 2x W. German 226s, 2x W. German 228s, 1xW. German 225, and 1xW. German 230.

    Go to gunbroker, search completed auctions. That will tell you exactly what the market is paying.

    You can pay a few bucks have GB give you a statistical distribution of transactions for that particular model. It's worth the $3 or so IMO to get your price within the right $20.
