Look for a 2 digit date code under the front dust cover...
A = 0
B = 1
C = 2
D = 3
E = 4
F = 5
G = 6
H = 7
J = 8
K = 9
Used .40 226's are quite common right now as dept trade-ins. A lot of DAK triggers too.
I found a nice JK '89 226 9mm a few years ago with original yellow box, papers, original receipt, extra mag for $500.
Nice looking setup... You gotta love 226's.
Umm, that won't work. His is a milled slide 226 in 40. Date codes are only present for W.German/German made 226s with stamped slides in 9mm.

I'm about 99.9% sure that code will work on all german made/german assembled sigs, my browning bda45 (sig p220) has hh in the slide (77) and they (browning) only imported the bda from 77-80, my german made/german assembled 226 is coded jg (86) (both stamped slides)
Go to gunbroker, search completed auctions. That will tell you exactly what the market is paying.
