Hello. Been a member for a while, but 1st post. Have found a Smith and Wesson 22 lr C.T.G. snubbie, 2 inch barrel. Serial number N165xxx. Price 200.00. I'm in the dark on this. Is this a decent buy and how old would this gun be? Don't have a model number.Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Any Smith snubbie for $200 is great: that's the price of a steal on a Taurus or Charter Arms (I've had them all.)

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention it's Chrome. If I read the list of Smith serial numbers correctly, I would say that this gun was manufactured 1972-1974. Comments?

    1. That would take research and some technical knowledge to know that answer, which is over my pay grade.

I am not an expert in Model 34s but a little info from the SW Bible would indicate that that the 34-1's ran from 1960 to 1988. Premium for 2" barrel and nickel (it should not be chrome).

    Values of $350 to $850.

Are you sure the serial number isn't a "M"? M165xxx would put it between 1960 and 1971

If it is original finished and tight, that could be a steal. Even if it was refinished; for $200 it might be a great little shooter.

Probably is nickel, only seen picture. Not an M. Clearly an N. Also has a decent holster. Thanks everyone for all your comments. Merry Christmas to all....

Have the Smith. It's nice. Came with a Hiddin Thunder, Magnolia, Arkansas holster, S&W Small.

Upon closer inspection while looking at the actual gun, other than a picture, the letter is an M, and it's now mine. It's nice....
