I just picked the M&P Shield 9mm with laser.
I have small to medium hands.
The grip on the shield feels so small.
The checkering does give a very positive grip.
    It still feels small.
Any idea / suggestions how to bulk up the grip.

I do wonder if they actually field test.
The slid release is very small and hard to release the slid.
The buttons on the laser are also small and recessed in.
I am sure if needed in a tense situation.
The laser could not be activated quickly if at all.

Not to be a smart ass, but if you found all of these issues with the gun not fitting your hands, why did you buy it?

I would suggest to sell it and get something that fits you better and feel more comfortable manipulating, take your time and research and if at all possible rent before buying trust me you will save yourself a lot of money.

Did it feel different when you first held it before you bought it....? I’m pretty picky now before I buy cause that’s happened to me a few times

To be fair, S&W refers to it as a Slide Stop in their manual (as do most other polymer gun manufacturers), so one can argue that it is not really intended to be a slide release.

I will say that my Shield 2.0 has a very tight fit, but the gun should loosen up a bit after you shoot it.

Can't speak to the laser as I had no interest in an integral laser that could not be removed should something happen to it (however, one could argue with such an inexpensive firearm, that may not be a worry). I just didn't want to deal with a laser I could not remove, plus have a bit harder time finding a holster that I prefer.

On another note, have you field tested it yet?

I thought the Shield had the best feel of any of the single stacks. I have two Shields so I must be an expert or just stupid. Please don't start a poll on that. :):You may be happier with the M&P Compact double stack. But if you're not going to shoot and train with it you could save a lot of money and just carry a brick. Plus you don't need a laser on a handgun or a brick. Effectiveness is about equal.

People can shoot guns that are to small for their hand easier than people with small hands shooting large guns. When in doubt error on the side of small. Besides it is supposed to be slim.

You can buy slip on grip sleeves to make the gun bigger if you want.

Ignore the whole slide stop vs slide release debate. Learn to overhand rack the gun during a reload. It may not be faster but it works.

The integrated laser is pretty much useless in a "tense situation". But what you are left with is a shield with sights. Just learn to use the sights. Other then reducing holster choices there is no negative for having the laser on the gun. Think of it as an aid for dry practice and move on. Or if you are using the gun for home defense you would have time to push the button and turn it on.

I have a S&W 9mm Shield for carrying when more concealability is needed.

Of course it doesn't have a grip that's large enough for an ideal grip.
    Concealability has a trade off.

I have used bicycle inner tube cut to length under a Pierce grip glove to add bulk to the grip. It added the the right amount to make my hand fit better.

It shoots well. I do not consider trading it for anything.
It is more a comfort fit.
As for the laser. NO I did not even think of trying it before I purchased.

May I ask anyone. You never purchased anything and then need or want to modify it.

On non-interrogated laser guns of mine.
When I practice clearing my home at night.
I turn on the laser. I hold a finger over the lens.
Then when I come to grips. The laser is on target.
That was it does not give away my position.

Where did you purchase the Hogue grips. Is it generic or custom?

I completely forgot about slide releasing.

^ the Shield laser is way to close to the muzzle imo to do this. Maybe on a different gun.

The shield has a small grip, for sure.
    I suggest Talon grips/grip tape.
My slide release is impossibly stiff too, i generally "slingshot " slide to load it.
Ive gotten used to these things and overall like the shield for its size and weight

My first finger left hand covers the laser from the bottom.
    I am right handed.
But I do the same when I need to shoot left hand.
It comes off immediately when I grasp the grip.
