Hi all, I'm looking at getting a commander bobtail 1911 - OR a officer frame w/ commander slide.
My MAIN concern is concealability of the frame/grip. Specifically - Is there much practical difference between a (full-size) bobtailed grip and an officer's grip **when carrying at 3 o'clock or appendix** ?? Printing?

Looking for experience from folks that carry a 1911.

This'll be an alloy framed gun for weight.

Looking at options from Dan Wesson, S&W, Colt -- i currently have a Dan Wesson Specialist that is amazing and I'll likely stay with DW.

I carry 1911's quite frequently with a Dan Wesson VBOB or ECO being my primaries. Truthfully I don't really notice a difference in the conceal-ability of the grip between a bobtail commander and an officer sized gun. For some reason that rounded off corner just makes it conceal (and fit my hand) very easy. But some people don't like a bobtail so I would try to get one in hand prior to purchase.

If I could only have one pistol it would be my VBOB if that tells you anything

That’s gonna depend on your build, choice of clothing, holster, daily activities etc....not really something anyone else can answer for you.

I think Dean nailed it. Not much to add, but for me personally, the shorter grip of an officer's sized pistol works better than the longer bobtail. I've been carrying the newish Ruger SR1911 Officer's Model most of the year, with the ECO likely to make it into the rotation once I finish up the break-in period. I'm an IWB carrier as well, and the officer size works great for this. Plus, being a 1911 format, the slim profile rides really nicely.

I'm a hardcore fan of the ECO, but I can't speak highly enough about the Ruger. It's been absolutely flawless for me so far.

Both the SR1911 Officer and the ECO have a subtly rounded mainspring housing, which I find fits my hands really well.
