What up INGO! I have looked around for something like this for a while... not coming up with a whole lot. Over the last year or so, I have carried my Wilson Combat EDC X9 and Custom Glock 19... I have become very familiar with both weapons, and felt as though a side by side write up should be done! I will try to keep this very objective and be up front in my findings. So... Which one is the better gun?!!

First, lets look at the EDC X9!! I bought this gun used from a forum member and have to say, from the time I heard that Wilson was coming out with this I wanted one! Thanks to this forum, I was able to grab it used for a fraction of the price of new.

The pistol w/3 mags cost me roughly 2K shipped!!

I want to call out the XTac cuts on this pistol! Its very comfortable and give the pistol an amazing feel.

The Glock on the other hand was something I bought years ago and figured it would be a pistol that I would carry almost daily. I am not going to get into all the reasons I chose this pistol for a carry gun, but I did. As big of 1911 fan as I am, I am also a huge Glock fan. I think they have a purpose and do it pretty well.

This gun was sent out to my personal favorite "modders" for work that I wanted for my gun.
The slide work was done by Loki Tactical... Outside of looking cool, Ill be honest, all the cuts do not serve a huge function. Yes, the enhanced cocking serrations and front muzzle cut are great, but thats about it. Sights were swapped from Trijicon HD's, which is what I have on every single Glock I own... so those were put on for consistency. The frame is really amazing. It was done by Sean Harder of Flayed customs. IMO one of the best at his craft. The stippling is the best feeling stippling I have ever felt, the boarders are perfect, and the modifications (such as grip reduction, trigger guard change, and formed mag-well) are all just as I specified. I also shoot a lot of reloads so, I swapped out the barrel... The Lantac Barrel is very nice and looks good with the gun. Its definitely the tightest fitting Glock barrel I have had in a gun (including Zev). Lastly was the trigger... This was done by Johnny Glock, and although its not a 1911 trigger, its still the best trigger system I have personally felt on a Glock.

I have roughly $1550 tied up into the Glock.

Lets look at the stipple work and boarders done to the gun.

    33240433328_6818ee23c2_k.jpg

So there is about a $450 price difference in the two... IMO, not a large amount of money when it comes to custom guns!!

Before moving on, I want to mention, I took both of these pistols to the range yesterday. I put roughly 300 rounds through each gun. I did not clean them, oil them, or do any maintenance to either one after yesterdays trip. I will add that I did not have one single issues with either gun. I shot fast, slow, and a few different types of ammo ranging from Hornady Critical Defense to Seller and Beloit to my own reloads that had 4.5gr of W231 under a 115gr bullet. All shot just fine, not problem.

Today I took them both back and only shot my reloads... I wanted to record what I did with each pistol and report it back to you all!!

Before I get into the accuracy of the gun etc, Lets dig in a bit!

First lets look at the finish on each pistol. The Wilson has the factory Wilson Combat AT finish. I have always been of the mindset that the applicators at Wilson are not the best. They rebrand Cerakote and call it AT. They also do a poor job as I have had many run in's with them over this issue. The Frame and Slide of the Glock was Cerakoted by me.

Both of these pistols have been holstered well over 2 thousand times and likely closer to 3-4. They are both carried in Stealth Gear Ventcore IWB holsters. The Wilson also gets carried in a custom leather holster which is much easier on the finish than the SG holsters. With that said, as usual the Wilson finish just does not hold up. Its got much more wear on it than the Glock. The only thing I can chalk this up to is poor application or prep. Here are some pictures of the finish on both.

To me for finish work on these firearms, the Glock wins.

Lets talk about concealment and carry aspect on these two pistols. I really do like both! As you can see in the pictures the EDC X9 sits up a bit higher in my waist. Additionally I find that the Wilson Combat grips are just to aggressive and can tear your skin up pretty quick. Meanwhile the Glock is perfect... The stipple work is aggressive in the hand but its a non issue while in contact with your side.

I would also give the edge to the Glock for comfort and concealment.

Onto Magazines... Although both these mags can carry 14, the Wilson mags are just better in every way. The construction feels better, the followers are nicer, springs are perfect, and loading them up is a breeze! I do love the fact that I can get extensions for my Glock (such as the Taran Tactical ones pictured, but I just like to Wilson mags better. Over all IMO Wilson makes the better mag.

Sights!!! To me, this is where the EDC X9 starts to shine and take over. The Sights on the Wilson are perfect for me. Adjustable with a gold bead front blade! The front sight works perfectly with this pistol... My eye just picks it up best! I also like the thinner post vs The thicker post that the Glock has. The Wilson sight allows for not only fast acquisition, but also gives the ability to very precise shots. The Glock is more of a true combat sight. I like the Glock sights, and think the HD's are the best sight out there for Glock but, the Wilson sights and sight picture are just better.

Since we are talking about sights, we also need to talk about accuracy and shoot ability! Today I ran these pistols through a few different shooting scenarios and once again the Wilson really shines through on this. It really runs laps around the Glock in every way possible... from fast shooting, to double tap/splits from the draw, to just stand still accuracy shooting. I will also say the recoil on the Wilson is far less than the Glock. Its a very soft shooting pistol. The Glock is fine... accurate to what it needs to be but, really snappy. The Wilson is a dream to shoot compared to the Glock.

Triggers are also something to mention. The Wilson is what you expect from a 1911! Its nearly impossible to compare a Glock trigger to a 1911 style trigger system... The Wilson comes in at a very nice 3.75 pull. The Johnny Glock Carry trigger is the best Glock trigger I have felt. Its a flat faced poly trigger that he does his thing with! The reset is awesome and the break is also very nice. It comes in right at 4.25... Its very good, just not as nice as the EDC (or any 1911 for that matter).

Remember the shooting I was talking about up top... Here are the results and targets...

Started at 30 feet. About 2 seconds in between shots... Left target is the Glock Right is the Wilson.

I then shot the middle target at 45 feet...

Lastly, the clean up... Both pistols were extremely dirty when I finished up. Take down of both pistols is very easy as well! The guns performed flawlessly, even with the close to 1K rounds through them with no cleaning. I know thats not extreme, but I did want to ensure there would be no issues once I got to a higher round count without cleaning.

My Final Thoughts... Listen, I love both of these guns, I really do. As with anything we can get caught up in the hype of things. For me, I did with modding out a stock G19. Is this version of G19 better than my stock 19 was? For me yes! I really do think it came out great. The look is great, I love that I can shoot reloads, the trigger system is fantastic, and the stipple work is top drawer! Do I think that this Glock or any Glock is worth $2K plus? No chance.

When it comes to this EDC X9, it sits as it came to me. Its an amazing pistol and one I will never sell. From the size for concealment, to the accuracy to really every aspect of it is fantastic! Its soft and accurate... and its obvious I cant out shoot it. Is the gun worth 3K+? I am not sure... What I am sure of though is that its definitely worth the 2K I paid for it. Outside the grip texture cutting up my side its nearly the perfect CCW pistol. Obviously I am not overly happy with the way Wilson applies their AT, but its a minor concern/non issue.

For me in this head to head battle, the EDC X9 wins fairly easily... Although as I pointed out in the write up, the Glock does win in some categories! I have to say... Until I shot these two pistols side by side the way I did, I wouldn't have believed that I would have preferred X9 so much more. Its a softer shooter, and a major step up in terms of over all quality!

Cheers and I hope you found this write up useful and enjoyable,

You lost me at the $2000 price of the x9!

Like anything, you if you are involved in the correct group of 1911 lovers, you can find amazing deals on custom guns and 1911’s.

Sorry to hear you don’t keep the same company I do.

Is a EDC X9 for 2k common place? No... but it’s what I got mine for.

Ok IÂ’m gonna be that guy...

    $2000 - 1911
    $1600 - Glock
    $10 belt

Ive heard this in other forums... a lot of people seem to have an issue with my holster and belt. My comment is simple... my belt is not a gun belt”... I donT care to wear a “gun belt”. I dress comfortably and donÂ’t claim to be an “operator”.

Jeans, a tee, and some cross trainers is what I wear... not changing this based on what I carry. The belt was something I had on the day I took pictures. Ive lost about 30 pounds since the 1st of the year so, its a little off.

Not that I care, but crap... the amount of concern with my belt and holster has been comical.

I will say it does look a little...unorthodox. do you skip the middle belt loop in the back? I'm not being sarcastic when I say that WC deserves a good belt and piece of leather

No, my jeans are just that loose and the belt is to big... the picture was simply
to try to show concealment etc...

I literally need to go go buy some new jeans and a belt.

Ill take the lost lost weight and bad pics vs the lbs I’ve lost:)

Not hating on you by any means, it's just that with that flimsy belt it seems like your holster might sag quite a bit and have a lot more "wiggle room" when trying to pull the firearm from the holster.

Well said. Great write up, I’ve been looking at an EDC 9 for a minute, just can’t seem to pull the trigger. If I find a deal such as yours, I would be greatly tempted!

I'm sorry if I struck nerve, but the review was not what I was expecting. I'm not impressed by people and their toys and know that some folks need to put on the dog, it's not for me.

I got to my dad's farm at 4:10AM Tuesday to take him to dialysis and with the frost and the super snow moon shining down on his yard it seemed to be covered in shimmering diamonds. That impressed me.

Struck a nerve? Not why you would think that. I wrote my review and thoughts and you seemed upset that I said I got my X9 on a great deal.

In terms as impressing you on mynwrite up, impressing people is never my intention on anything I post! I just try to give perspective and my own opinions... people either agree or like them, or they don’t.

As far as the other stuff in your post.... sounds like you are a hard worker... sorry to hear about your old man... not sure what that has to do with the write up other than you wanting some props for being a good son.? I’ll keep him in our families prayers.

    Cheers
