A friend just got a new Springfield XDM subcompact in 9mm. I took her to the range today and we tried several brands of ammo. My Glock 19 loves 124gr+P Gold Dots but hers didn't do particularly well with it.

What are y'all finding to be the tightest groups in yours? I'd appreciate all your suggestions.

How did it not do well?

New gun-NEW Shooter-these are things that would most likely be the cause??

Most all NEW Semi-auto pistols that I have had like a few hundred WARM loaded rounds through them before they would "Settle Down", and work properly.

My Glocks and CZ's like my handloads right up at the Max on the charge/pressure to operate the best.

I do this, and then carry Hornady Critical Duty for my EDC rounds.

Just my opinion-Use it for what it is worth...Bill.

Thanks. But my guns don't change preferences with a certain number of rounds. I've found this to be true with most that I've had (Taurus, Sig, XDM, XD, Glock, S&W.) We both shot the Gold Dots and I couldn't make them tighten up like my G19 does. She was doing 6-8" groups off bags at 7 yds!! But she stood up and shot with a two handed grip free hand and put 4 124gr Blazer Brass FMJ rounds into a 2" circle!! WTH!! So I gave her 15 of those to carry until we can figure out what JHPs her gun likes best.

I haven’t shot the XDM, but I have experience with the M&P Shield 9. In it, the standard pressure 147 grain HST is quite accurate. Recoil is subjective, of course, but I find the 147 to be very pleasant to shoot.
