So I have a Browning Hi Power and I’m under 21 (private transfer) so I’m not permitted to receive it in a transfer from a FFL

Would I need to be 21 if I want to get a trigger job done with it at a gunsmith?

If you have to leave the gun there overnight, then he's required to do a background check to give it back to you.

If you can pick it up same day, then no background check is legally required.

This is what i was told, working for a ffl dealer.

    :dunno:

    I don’t think so.

I’ve never had to undergo a background check when picking up a gun from a gunsmith.

when we do a repair on a firearm, we give you a claim check, and I tell you "do not lose the claim check" and "if you lose the claim check we have to do a background check on you just like you're buying the gun" per the batfe.

its happened, people lose them (claim checks), its not a big deal

so op if you drop off a gun at a gunsmith, "don't lose the claim check!"

Anytime I have used a gunsmith, the gunsmith takes down my information along with the firearm information to put in his books. If BATFE shows up and wants to see what he has, his books have to match. When I pick my item up, there is no background check or 4473 to fill out. It’s my item. If you have any questions, contact one of the smiths on here like AllenM. He will answer any questions you might have.
