Not surprised. It is a great backup gun. Putting the initial teething pains aside, the P365 does an excellent job of being a small gun with capacity, accuracy and shootability of a much larger gun.

I assume that the ISP troopers will have to qualify with the new 365s. Does anyone know what the qualification course is? I wonder how accurate the 365 is at a distance.

Most pistol qualification courses don't go further than 25 yards. I am far from an expert shot and can hit a silhouette very consistently at 25 yards with the P365. As Patience said, more on the shooter than the gun at pistol ranges.

When I was Municipal LE in Indiana we qualified out to 50 yards with a 60 round course for the handgun. Supposedly ISP shot the same course. Around 1998 my department went to a 25 yard course and just dripped the 50 yard stage. For a 48 round course.

Believe it or not even the 45 that a few of us carried didn't drop that much at 50 yards.

As far as ISP I thought they went to a different SIG backup gun 2-3 years ago after the 227 adoption. Night as well change backup guns like primary ones.

Do departments typically have a back up pistol that is a different firing system (striker vs. DA/SA) and different caliber (9mm vs. .45 app)?

ISP moved to the Sig P227 several years back.

Yes but heard they only use 10-round mags for P227 not the 14 round extended due to ejection irregularities...14+1 in .45 would be a helluva first response.

Nice to see them all finally get backup guns...issued...and not have to PROVIDE their own. So, why don't they all have issued ARs with optics yet? Some do but not all, why not? Why don't they have Level IV body armor issued yet? We need to outfit our finest with the finest, especially with the threats they could face every single day!

Very good point. As I69 nears completion, it will become more of a conduit for north bound drug routes and ISP could see some additional traffic. They should be well equipped to handle anything they come up against.

Which is a pretty good argument against a 10+1 .45 pistol.

Sort of on topic but since SIG discontinued the 227 and only make the 220 as the only 45 wonder what they will do later. I'd say if they were smart go to the 226 in 9 could use (or should be able) to use the same duty gear
