I would compare it to a .40 cal on steroids if your shooting top end loads. Nice thing is I can reload from mild to wild depending on the mood. I'm shooting them from a Dan Wesson Bruin 1911 so with the 6.3" barrel it helps tame it so I stay on target.

I am guessing off the shelf ammo is not what it could be?

Underwood/buffalo bore and others offer some really nice Full Monti rounds but they are expensive

Sig/Remington and others offer up good range/practice ammo that is more like a hot 40 as 88 mentioned.

I've shot many a magnum J-frame SW that has far more snap than a 10 mm. The 1911 is a relatively stout platform that soaks up a lot of the recoil. Now the slides tend to be beefy so you have some reciprocating weight.

My experience with first time 10mm shooters is their response tends to be, "Well, That wasn't too bad".

Go rent one with some Sig 1250 fps ammo or maybe someone nearby will let you shoot one. The Sig ammo is a decent approximation of the original loads. Sure isn't the screamers mentioned up thread or the downloaded stuff on the store shelf.

Here is a pic of a proper 10mm by CM...he knows how to do 10 mm!

Clearly you and the Mouse are enablers!!!!!!!!! Now it has gone from well lets try and find out a bit more about them to Yeah I want one! I am kind of sour on Rock Island due to my Baby rock experience. Springfield would be a solid choice were it not for their antics of late. What about the Ruger?

Skip the Rock Island (sorry just my opinion). Ruger is solid value for the money. It looks like you are in TN but there is a Ruger 10 mm and Tanfo 10 mm in the classies. That Tanfo is a nice piece. I have a similar model.
