I have never seen a Sig P220 in .40S&W. Link to the one you are looking at?
I have some in .45 and one in 10mm.

Same here. As a carry gun, it carries as well maybe slightly better as a comparable 1911. The 1911 has a huge after market support including more and better holsters leap frigging it over the p220... jmo..
Itll come down to personal preference

I like the 1911 and have several but one thing about the Sig, it is one helluva lot easier to field strip and reassemble :-)

Jugger, you are new here but we don’t know if you are new to guns.
I am not sure if you are looking for advice even.
do you just want a hammer fired metal gun? Like Doc said quite a difference in them. The Sig will be a DA/SA which just means you will carry it uncocked, so first trigger pull will be longer and heavier. The 1911 is a single action, you will carry it cocked with a safety on. Some people can’t wrap their head around carrying a cocked pistol, safety or no.
    Set on a particular caliber?
