Here's my under $600 1911. Come for the history, stay for the sweet aftermarket trigger.

Rock River Arms. They're making boutique 1911s again, and their polymer framed version too.

""'I don't want to hear about any 1911 above $600. It has to be a government .45 ACP. I have 1911's done by major gunsmiths not simi-custon productions. I know about high dollar 1911's but not lower cost 1911's."" I didn't say anything about cheap 1911's, the title said it all! "The best 1911 for $600". It sounds like SA used might be the best buy. I have bought new for most of my builds after getting burnt on a couple of early used buys for builds. I'm looking at a new build and don't want to spend the money for a good new base gun $1000 +/-

Then your question has been addressed. Pretty well actually.

Any time these threads start this is exactly the path they run. No harm. Lots of participation and good info all around. I am in the same boat after getting burnt on a "New" TRP recently I will only look in the used market for project guns.

I have recently bought 2 "NEW" Standard Mfg. 1911's and I will put them up over DW any day. And they are not as spendy.

Have you ever handled one? I tried to Google it can't find any written reviews.

I always liked Rock River, I built a couple nice guns off their frames and slides when they used to sell them, they were cheaper than Les Baer. They went and dropped them in favor of all things AR just when they were building a good following/reputation. The poly version was vaporware for so long that people lost interest. There are a couple on gunbroker and their website says they have some in stock but you hear virtually nothing about them.

Last year I was in the market for a 10mm 1911, I went to a LGS(South County Guns in Schererville) to look at what they had. The first thing I asked to look at was a Colt New Delta Elite. The salesman actually talked me out of that gritty travesty in favor of the much cheaper RIA Tactical II($595 out the door vs. $1100(pre-tax) for the Colt) 1000 rds later, including some Underwood thumpers, and I haven't had a hiccup. The only "problem" I have had is the front sight got a little loose and started walking out to the right around 100 rds in. Some Loctite and a brass punch to re-center it and it has been good ever since.

It appears 1911's might be the one area where the statement "you get what you pay for" won't apply then...
