Last year I bought a S&W Shield, because it was inexpensive and I thought that I needed a new handgun. After a year of sitting in the safe, I figured I should see if it would put bullets down range or blow up in my hand, I was pleased that it put 20 flawless rounds down range. Though I haven’t gained enough confidence with this gun to call it an EDC, I will say that the gun handles nicely and would make a nice carry gun or nightstand gun. I normally lean toward revolvers and shotguns as defense weapons but, I have to accept the fact that the gun world has evolved and semi-autos are the normal now. Back to the Shield, for a budget compact semi-auto, you can’t go wrong with this one.

I really like my 40cal Shield! have had mine over a year too, and is easy to carry, packs 7 + 1 rounds, and no issues with a little over 400 rounds fired. Mine was used, but appeared to have only 1 or 2 mags ever fired. Still had original heavy oil, which I cleaned and relubed with BreakFree. Mag springs were super tight, and loaded 5 in 6 rounder, and 6 in 7 rounder. In a week loaded all up to max. (in GTG carry, 7 rounds, +1 in tube)(GTG=Good to Go).
I carried 40cal G22/23 in LEO career, so its recoil is acceptable for a lightweight gun. My load is 165 gr JHP/ Federals.
Good luck on yours, its a keeper for sure!
