I'm wondering what brand/model/caliber of pistol the Texas church security guy used to take out the bad guy.
I'll buy one like it just to support the mfg.

I've recently bought a Glock 32 and 33 in .357Sig. I was very pleasantly surprised at the sharp but not bad recoil of the 33 (subcompact.) It's really pleasant to shoot. And with that bad ass round it's going to be my EDC (either that one or the 32.) Even though the .357 is a potent caliber I watched several interviews on Fox and think the hero said all he could get was a head shot so any major caliber should have dropped the BG like a sack of rocks.

There is no doubt that guy knew what he was doing. That said, everyone should work really really hard with the carry pistol they have already.

Maybe throw that new gun money at classes to make sure YOU could make that shot EVERY time?

Have seen a lot of folks shoot pretty horribly over the years.
Thankfully the church security guy landed a good hit first shot.
Dunno if he hit where aimed.
Glad he moved up to add another if need be.

Whenever you shoot something and it drops, be ready to add another.
If in doubt and target visible, add one anyway.
Could have been just a stunner hit.

Hell we do that on game animals.
Bad guys should catch 3 bullets just because.

BWF- oh, I got 1 pistol that I'm boringly dependable with- a G-19 I've shot for probably 25 years. Yes. I take classes; used to teach. I'm too old and just don't have the energy anymore...
More $ than sense, I suppose, just like to collect off beat stuff...

The ammo price isn't too bad if you pay attention and shop.
Sgammo has the speer lawman for 30 cents a round. the Gold dots JHP for 54 cents/rd, that is the round the USSS carried.
Tartgetsportsusa runs that HST at half price periodically.

Do we know if he was using irons or a RMR of some type? With my eyes aging faster than the rest of me, an RMR would make that a much easier shot for me.

Well, I suppose it's NOT such a weird hobby, given I have a probably 50 year old Louisville Slugger Mickey Mantle ball bat.(supposedly an exact copy of what he used) Bought it for 7$ when I was a kid.
I'd still like to know for sure what the guy used.

On a serious note I'm not sure why 357 Sig wasn't more popular than it was. (as an old 357 Mag fan) I know when I was at FLETC on recerts the Secret Service guys loved it. So I was surprised when their leadership went to 9mm and Glock ad they had been invested in SIG for almost 30 years.

Jack Wilson is also 71 years old.

It's likely he has to work very hard to decently see his iron sights, just like the rest of us more "experienced" folks. A lot of us use hi-vis dot iron sights to better accommodate the arm length focus issues common with middle aged and older folks.

It was posted in another thread that Wilson said he took the head shot because that is the shot he had, with the panicking crowd moving about. I don't think he's making that up.

Again, I think Wilson's shooting has more to do with software than hardware. Luck is rarely a factor in making a single cold shot under pressure precisely.
