Chinese chestnuts smell worse. Sis-in-law calls 'em kum trees.

CKW is so very cold natured due to the medical issues etc so I keep it at least 70 and usually 71.
If it is mid 30's or below I have a fire in the wood stove and it is 80-ish in the front room. Keeps the house warm with the furnace fan cycling.

they are beautiful but a southern protected exposure will be best. And don't expect the blossoms to survive any kind of frost.

We had a couple of Magnolia bushes (not trees) at the old house. They got big quick. Seemed to bloom out early each year and then drop the blooms quick.

Went to pick up some of the signs from my wife's business to help them out since her business partner is slammed with installs tonight and saw the same. Snowing/sleeting sideways and steam coming off the ground at the same time. Crazy weather.

My dad did the same. Mine is in thw corner of the corral and is a cornerstone of the property now. He then went and planted my 3 brothers' tree along the drive. They are thriving and my dad takes special care of them. He wont admit it, but they are special for him. Im excited to do the same.
