Takes me a while to move sometimes. Never could get myself to go ahead and get the little 640 Pro I’d eyed for half a decade or more...

Finally (shout out to kawtech87 and hopper)...

From just-opened-the-box to first shots (after adding my fave unobtainium Uncle Mike’s boot grips), rapid fire, and everything in between...

Yep. Glad to have pulled the trigger (in more ways than one!)!

I have very simple tastes. For years I wanted a Marlin .45 ACP Camp Rifle,to go with my 1911. When I finally Got it I was happy and still am.

I have other guns, most of them are pretty generic. I am basically an impulse gun buyer, when I see something I really like I bypuy it if I can. If not, Oh well.

Great shooting! I didn't catch from what distance, but looks good to me!
Nothing like getting a gun you've learned about, researched, but it's a little out of your comfort zone, and then all of a sudden, you're holding one in your hand: exhilarating!
After tooling around with many inexpensive .38 special CC guns, I had in my head to get a SW 642 hammerless & paid the extra to get that S/W name.
That evolved into a grail gun that cost double, that I didn't even know I needed: the Kimber .357 6s, the perfect CC revolver.

Today was a grail gun day.
    I am thrilled to get a classic .22LR revolver in a 1980s S/W 17-4. :rockwoot:
A fine example of why people love shooting a .22LR revolver.

That looks fantastic Wes, congratulations! It sure looks like you warmed up to it quickly. And not an easy one to get your hands on. Well done mate!

Love the look of the 640 and nice shooting too!

One of the all time classic 22 revolvers! Bet it will be a shooter too. I have the poor mans version of a Smith 17 , a Taurus 96. But I did pick up my own grail gun recently - a 1996 Smith 617 with 4" barrel. Love shooting the 22 revolver!

Mine was a S&W Mod 63 .22 with 4 inch barrel. Took 5 yrs to find and buy. Now I find that I need something to look for at gun shows and the classifieds so I have developed a "need/want" for a 3 inch barrel S&W K frame .38 in stainless. Not real common so maybe another 5 yrs looking. Good luck to all finding that special one.

There is only the next one.
EXACTLY.. They call it a "grail" gun because it's a never ending quest.

I started out one Saturday nearly 3 yrs. ago to get a new SW 617.
They didn't have one in stock & would have had to order one.
When I was standing there holding a Ruger GP100 in my hand for $100 less, I bought it instead. :dunno:
The first of many compromises b/c of $$ & impatience.

Since I got the SW 17 K22 Masterpiece unexpectedly yesterday (thank-you Snorko!), I can give up the dream for the SW 617 that I'd given up on b/c of the Dan Wesson beauty that I bought from a member here (thank-you Aeroflyer!).
It never does end, does it, like many have stated. :wallbash:
I worked hard trimming down the safe in retirement, but I've bought 4 guns back that I sold plus others, so it's not working out for me lately.
    3 were grail guns. :dunno:

Indeed, it seems there is *always* another.

The last one on my Grail Gun list is a DW Specialist Commander 9mm in the bead blast finish. Kind of spendy and it serves absolutely no practical purpose other than I've been lusting after one for the last 2+ years. The price point is what keeps me in a "no rush" mode to snatch one up unless it's an insanely appealing deal.

This will probably sound strange to many, but as I get older (Wiser? Debatable for sure.), I have found "wanting" to be more fun than "having".

Much wisdom in the "wanting" to be more fun than "having" comment.
In case it isn't apparent, I love, "the hunt."
Especially in the case of a gun I've researched & want it but it is too pricey for me, and I let it go, like the Beretta 87 that I've chased after for 2 years now, but it is pricey.
But, like the SW 17-4 .22LR revolver I got yesterday, no research needed, and when it came along with a profile of a collector, but for the price of a shooter: I knew to leap quickly. :coffee:
None of my regular 20 questions and the like to ascertain the profile.
I knew & trusted Snorko b/c I had dealt with him 2 yrs. ago.
I just pmmed him saying: I want that gun!
