I finally was able to take a look at the Smith & Wesson M&P EZ in 9mm and noticed something awfully familiar.

Both the EZ and my 1911 share the following characteristics:

    1. Both have thumb safeties.
    2. Both have grip safeties.
    3. Both are carried about with their hammers cocked.

    The Smith & Wesson M&P 9 EZ is just a 1911 in a more modern gun's clothing!

So, if you don't like the 1911 because it is carried "cocked and locked," the EZ will NOT be the pistol for you!

Lots of housewives out there totin' 1911s now apparently!

    Just a thought!

Wife has the 380 Ez Shield and loves it. I've shot it plenty as well. Great firearm especially for those with weak hands or those that dont like recoil.

I've thought about the 9mm version for my self

I like the EX and my Wife with Lupus has zero issues. One quirk I do see with folks in class with tha EZ Both male and female and not always newer shooters is the grip safety. The EZ grip safety is pinned/hinged at the bottom where a 1911 is at the top. Where this is an issue is the EZ is less forgiving in an unproper grip.

Its not a major issue but something to make sure the user understands.

M&Ps are great guns though, I really like them

Question: since m and p have a similar pistol without a beaver tail safety.

why is it considered dangerous to bypass the 1911 beavertail safety?
or am i just wrong and it is widely accepted

Any safety that is a manufacired shouldn't be altered on a carry gun. Some competitors use to sake their race gun 1911s back in the day but on a CCW and or Deense fun it can make it go bang when it shouldn't

Specific to the Shield EZ line they are actually hammer fired which is why the grip safety is on every EZ and its and it can be optional on having thumb safety or not. The EZ 380 and 9 is made on the same frame as the M&P 22 which is also hammer dired however the 22s all have a thumb safety and No grip safety.

I don't consider it "dangerous". There are other single action hammer fired guns out there with nothing but a standard frame safety. Grip safeties are a failure point, which is why disabling them was common for people who really wanted a guaranteed bang when they drew and fired.

Frame and grip safeties are both relics from when guns were not carried in form-fitted hard plastic holsters. Both were brought back on the EZ because it's a gun marketed to women who will carry it loose in their purse with all the other pens and lipstick and random junk rolling around.
