I have loved my XD-45 ($450) but I just bought a Ruger P95- 9mm (under $300) and must admit that the Ruger shoots as good but has closer groups. The P95 is a very sweet shooting gun.

I've had my P95DC for a few years now, and it's pretty much all that I feel is necessary in a 9mm. It cycles well and puts holes in things. I occasionally carry it, but normally stick with one of my XD-40s. Maybe I'll carry the Ruger tomorrow.

I hope SA decides to make the XDM in .45. That would be sweet.

My first 9mm was a Ruger P89. Not a visually pleasing firearm by any means, but it shoots every time I pull the trigger and it's accurate enough for me..

I bought the cheapest ammon Wal-Mart carries and fired 100 rounds without any problems. What a great gun! Eats anything and the groupings were great - even out to 25 yards.

They just announced the XDM in 9mm – 19+1 capacity. A .45 probably isn't too far behind, and will probably be 14+1.

You could just go and buy a FNP 45....

No matter who makes a pistol that holds 14rds of 45, it is going to feel like a brick.

    Plus XDs are just....well....XDs -

There's much better options out there as the OP has found out, even the Ruger beats the XD
