    I was thinking of Bill Yeager, my bad!
    Chuck Yeager, the pilot. He drove the pace car in '86 IIRC.

    Several days before the race they gave Yeager a private tour of the museum and the basement. 16 year old Kirk was in the basement folding t-shirts and counting post cards.
    They'll turn us all to beggars because they're easier to please

    That would be cool Kirk, I went to the Indy 500 once, time trials actually and met Al Unser and the Scottish Grand Prix driver (Same era) but I can't remember his name. We were in adjoining balconies watching the time trials. Al kept throwing his drink down on the guys below us because they were being too rowdy. I was young, too young to be served booze but Al kept slipping me his bottle and we got really stupid drunk. Got their autographs too, before they were both too drunk to write. Have them still somewhere around here.
