Found this site looking for information on current ISP carry permit turnaround time. The extremely long thread on it had very useful information among the newest posts made in the past month or so.

Been around firearms for 45 years, starting with a Ruger .357 magnum 4" revolver that I sold shortly before entering the US Army in 1976 (a predecessor to the current GP100). Served from 1976-1997. Whatever itch there was to make things go bang and boom had been more than scratched. With arms rooms brimming with Uncle Sam's hardware there wasn't much need to have my own. My assigned individual weapon over the years was split between a M-16A1 for the first five years or so, followed by the remaining time carrying a M1911A1 until it was replaced by the M9. Familiarized with and fired a lot of other weapons, some of it rather large.

After a couple decade hiatus I bought a RIA M1911-A1 Rock Standard FS, Beretta M9, and Sig P238 Nitron. The RIA's "Novak style" sights are easier for my aging eyes than the minimalist ones on Uncle Sam's 1911s. Has a full length guide rod which was a new experience when I field stripped it the first time. Had to get a bushing wrench to deal with a recoil spring plug that wanted to cut a hole in my thumb. The Sig is the smallest firearm I've ever handled in physical size, weight and cartridge, which are all a good match for each other. Its 1911 operating pattern has a nice familiarity and feel to it. Still getting accustomed to a sight radius under four inches with a barrel under three inches. It's made for about 7-8 yards and not much farther.
