Live in Wisconsin but grew up in Indiana and take my parents (now just my Mother) back to the New Paris area each summer to visit. Will be there weekend of June 23. Been lurking a few years, I thought I had signed up but couldnÂ’t figure out my password, so maybe I never did?

IÂ’m an open carry guy, as weather permits. Wisconsin is no permit open carry, need a license to conceal. Been OC for 7 years, not many issues. Wi was the 49th state to allow CC, but got it mostly right, for the time. I do have a license as it make carrying in a vehicle somewhat easier. Plus, I conceal in the winter, at church, etc.

My wife is a School District Administrator, IÂ’ve also posted in the free Gunsite training post. She owns guns and we try to shoot at least monthly at the local range, or an indoor 30 miles away. She would be opposed to allowing carry by the general public in the school, and I am not allowed to carry at school functions by WI law. IÂ’m a truck driver, married up! She would follow any changed laws, it looks like if Wi would allow guns in schools they would give each school the option to post no gun signs, and I suspect her school as well as most, would do that. There are 7 exceptions to the WI no guns in school law, none of which would apply to me. (LE on duty and such)

Because she is “somebody” in our small town and I open carry a handgun we are quite the conundrum to many people. We have a German Shepherd that I walk 3-5 miles around town a couple times a week, talk to lots of people. I suspect nearly everyone knows me after two years, or at least knows who I am. Interaction with Local LE has not been a problem. I know them, they know me, but we are not best friends or anything. I get the impression the Chief is not my biggest fan, but he has not ever given me a problem.

Good to be here, enjoy the day!

Greetings! I moved from WI years ago back to IN. Much like NY WI is a beautiful state ruined by politics...high taxes, libs in power, etc. (how's that Tammy Baldwin working out for you Sen...Feingold anyone?) You've been doing better lately but the drag of Milwaukee and Madison keep you on the wrong side of the bubble unless you can generate high turnout from the more agricultural counties.

I was delivering food at Northland College for SYSCO up until 1997, so we might have crossed paths. At the least, you ate some grub I delivered. Ashland/Bayfield area has a lot to see and do, and is quite beautiful.

While Tammy is not our proudest moment, statewide politics are fairly red at the moment. I think every state has one or two liberal big cities to cancel out, if possible. Lots of farmers were on the free healthcare bandwagon as many of them had none.

Out national reps seem to be the extremes. Ripon, Wi is considered to be the birthplace of the Republican Party, for whatever that’s worth? Not much. Milwaukee has been under Democrat od Socialist control for Mayor for 100 some years. I’d say WI is a pretty mixed bag, hard to predict which side it comes down on. Madison is a lost cause and those of us up north consider it to be part of Illinois!
