With the mass murder in Colorado many are clamoring for even more gun control. Among them are a good number of elected officials whom have taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Included in that document is the Second Amendment which states "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

In your opinion, what was the concern of State delegates, the framers of the Constitution, and the Founding Fathers that led them to the conclusion that this must be included in the Constitution as the Second Amendment and as part of the Bill of Rights?

Further, how is that concern relevant to the state of the Union today?

It is the nature of man/government to suppress its citizens, or parts that they don't agree with (Catholics under King James, Coptics currently in Egypt, Tutsi's in Rwanda, and the list goes on forever, with Jews in Germany being the most infamous) . The potential for the wicked mistreating or murdering innocents will never cease to exist, and the government could be either the instigator, or turn a blind eye. The founders knew this way back then, and just because people are naive today, doesn't make it any less relevant. This is called TYRANNY, despotism, etc.

And an excellent response to the second question as well!

I wonder what others here will have to say.
