No, Keymaster is wrong on this one.

As the new law currently sits, it prohibits carry into establishments that get more than 50% of their gross revenue from alcohol. This basically means a dedicated bar or tavern. This would allow carry into somewhere like a Chili's or Applebee's that has a bar and serves alcohol, but their main function is a restaurant. Several other states have this provision as well.

This new bill would basically prohibit carry into ANY establishment that allows for consumption on premises. Notice the "Delete if more than 50%" language.

There are also trying to prohibit carry into churches. It sucks that the ink isn't even dry yet on this bad CCW law, and they're already trying to make it worse.

I agree. I did not fully understand the wording. They are doing this on the liquor side of the table. This bill would prohibit carry in any establishment that has a liquor license, and provides alcohol for consumption on premise. It will be interesting to see if it passes, and if it holds up to challenge if it does pass.

The one problem that the concealed carry bill created, since it has statewide preemption of firearms as it relates to carry and handguns, they no longer have to override home rule when they pass legislation like this, so it only requires a simple majority to pass, instead of the 2/3 majority it would've required before the CCW bill.

Glad to see Il getting onboard. Will be interesting to watch real world crime numbers in Cook co over the next ten or so years now
