It took $10 million to figure that out! :ugh:

Like you said, it wasn't the $10 million dollar answer he thought he was buying, so it will get swept under the rug, covered up, and ignored, in fine politically correct and "presidentially criminal" fashion.

Read this interview with Mark Rosenberg, who led the CDC gun research division in the 90s. Knowledge is a good thing, and both sides, "pro" and "anti" gun, will benefit from the truth.

What Researchers Learned About Gun Violence Before Congress Killed Funding - ProPublica

    Support knowledge, dispel ignorance!

It's not one, two or even three things that are really going to solve the problem. They may salve our conscience, but they won't solve the problem. The research is really, really important. We really need to find out what works, so that we can save more lives. It's been presented to people that research is going to hurt legitimate gun owners. That's the threat and how the NRA leadership has often presented it to the NRA membership. "Any sort of research is only going to result in your losing all your guns."
That's a tactic of fear. It's not at all the case. There are things we can do that will both reduce firearm injuries and protect the legitimate rights of gun owners and protect the children and their families.

“Self-defense can be an important crime deterrent,”says a new report by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The $10 million study was commissioned by President Obama as part of 23 executive orders he signed in January.

I am sure it is not the result he wanted:

CDC Study: Use of Firearms For Self-Defense is ?Important Crime Deterrent? | CNS News

Your post title is inaccurate. The article in fact starts with your first quote, "Self-defense (edit, i.e. NOT use of firearms) can be an important crime deterrent". No surprises there, it means if you protect yourself (by whatever means), you can deter criminals. It then goes on to say, "defensive uses of guns... have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies". This means there are lower injury rates when using guns than baseball bats etc for protection. All these do NOT mean that using guns deter crime more so than other defense methods. From the article: "...there is no evidence “that passage of right-to-carry laws decrease or increase violence crime.”

In any case, this is a straw man argument that has never been used by the gun control crowd - the argument by that group is about general gun violence, i.e. all the other things that happen with non-defensive gun use e.g.

“In 2010, incidents in the U.S. involving firearms injured or killed more than 105,000 Americans, of which there were twice as many nonfatal firearm-related injuries (73,505) than deaths.”

"Researchers also found that the majority of firearm deaths are from suicide, not homicide.”

So while guns are an effective form of crime deterrence, what to do about all the other harmful uses of guns? That's what the research thrust should, and is intended, to be.

Fixed it for ya. You probbaly didn't mean to imply that defending oneself with a firearm is a bad thing.

    You're welcome.

This is total bs!! Guns drastically increase crime, it's like the Wild West here.

On a more serious note, this has to be the biggest load of crap I've ever heard, who's bright idea was it to spend $10 million on something we already know. As usual, something had to be done. It doesn't matter what.
