I'm sitting here wondering if any of the typical gun control advocates that say "Oh I respect the Second but...." will jump on this?

My first reaction is "no, they are smart enough to know it won't fly politically in the majority of the states"

But then my second reaction is this is something to piggyback on, just say "see I disagree with Stevens but obviously you don't need semi-automatics" ??

I’m glad he said it. A retired Supreme Court Justice just stated that the gun control these people are after violates the 2d Amendment.

    There will be no repeal.

    Yes good point

    There will be no repeal.
I agree, but if it even becomes a rational discussion it changes things
It may make gun grabbers (that somehow still say they support the second, ya know 5 rounds at a time or something) look more moderate

If there was any doubt what these bastards have as their ultimate objective, it should now be clear.

Judge, I salute you..... with which digit I will leave to your imagination.

How many dissenting opinions on Heller has Stevens written?

Doesn't this old codger realize that "Repeal the Second" is an admission against his dissent?

Second Amendment merely recognizes a right, does not give jack.

His actual contemporary statements make clear that he disagrees with Heller's conclusion, but - consistent with most of American history - accepts it as the law of the land. As noted by HM, his contention that amend/repeal of the 2A is a tacit admission that the non-constitutional-level efforts to enact gun control likely run afoul of the now law of the land.

Oh, and another thing that might get lost: the constitution includes the mechanism by which it can be amended for this very kind of situation. Please - let's have the political discourse on what that would be like and what we can replace it with.

We, as gun owners, should not fear that discussion.

His statements that the 2nd needs repealed now show his intent on Heller and taints his decision, IMHO.
No different than ruth buzzy ginsberg saying she hates Trump but we are still to trust her to be impartial.
    I don't buy it for a second.

Not when it is based strictly on emotion and the will of a bunch of 15 years olds.
