As the title says is it legal for a IN resident to sell ammo to a IL resident. They have a FOID. Issue is buying bulk ammo on sale in IL it can't be shipped to there home. And then there's a upcharge for going through ffl.

It's only illegal if you get caught. But whatever you do don't post about it on the internet.

*legal disclaimer: I have no idea if it's illegal or not. Just being a smartass online.

Legal issues aside, I don't see why they'd need any assistance from an IN resident. Couldn't they could just go into Cabelas or Walmart or wherever in IN and buy whatever they want?

I lived in Illinois and you can get it shipped to your home. Unless it has changed recently, all they need to do is get the store a copy of their DL and FOID. The story will keep it on file and should ship it tho the home. I.E. Cabela's, Midwest, SportsmanGuide and such, all shipped to my home. I took a pic of my DL and FOID and emailed it to - all set to go.

Again, unless it has changed in the last 1.5 years.....that's how it is.

(Cabela's would not take an internet order. I would have to call them if I wanted it shipped to my home. For in store pickup I could order online)

Peoples Republic of Illinois...glad I do not live there or Peoples Republic of California. Seen the latest law now in effect there (Comifornia) where they do a background check on ammo purchases now. Indiana born and raised. Man I love it!!:woot:

As far as I know there is no Federal or Indiana law preventing ammo sales to out of state residents. If they drive to Indiana and the sale is made here between private citizens you should be good to go.

As long as they have a FOID and they show it to you, you are fine to sell it to them.
In Illinois, they have to show their FOID before handling ammo for prospective purchase.
To buy online, they have to send their FOID to the seller, but the big problem is that not all online sellers are set up to receive the FOID. For an individual selling on Gunbroker, you just have them email a copy to you - simple.

Protect yourself from what? You think the Illinois State police are going to break down your door for selling ammo to someone in their state? Get real!

It's just not Illinois.....it's the socialist state; republic of illinois.

Actually, I feel the OP is being honorable in his question because he does not appear to want to break any laws. I believe he is being "real".

And again, I would ask, what law would he potentially be breaking? To my knowledge an Indiana resident has no duty to comply with an idiotic Illinois specific law. I've been wrong before, but until I see a specific statute that prohibits an Indiana resident from selling ammo to an Illinois resident in a private transaction on Indiana soil, then I will continue to assume Illinois can go pound sand.

I totally agree. I'm just saying I think its good that one asks before assuming.

I've sold at Illinois gun shows and to Illinois residents through Gunbroker. Yes, ISP goes undercover at Illinois gun shows and will bust you. Obviously, in Indiana they would be out of their jurisdiction, but that doesn't stop activist news media types from hitting up Indiana shows near the border. Do you want to be the guy on the undercover video who makes their story or do you want to be the guy who sticks to the rules and sinks their story? Some of us have experience in these matters.

Illinois rules only apply within Illinois borders, so not much of a story there.
