“They want us to finally pass commonsense gun safety legislation, so no one has to fear being hurt or killed while at school, at work, or at their place of worship,” Northam said hours after the election results. “I look forward to working with our new Democratic majority to make these priorities a reality.”
The legislature will take on several proposals, including banning assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines and raising the minimum age to 21 from 18 to buy a rifle or shotgun, said Dick Saslaw, the top Democrat in the state Senate.

A lot of people who chose to not vote are about to be very sorry.

Unless there are other issues that you think are more important than the 2A, which you happen to align with the Democratic party on, I cant figure out why any gun owner votes Democrat. They are actually being very open about their goals now. The Democrats are wanting to ban and regulate.

Another rural, generally conservative state going the way of Illinois, Washington, and California. The liberal big-city crowds who can do nothing for themselves and are often part of the free s*** army have co-opted another state.

The wife and I were in Houston over the weekend, staying downtown where she had a conference. Lots of Beto and Hillary and similar stickers, certainly not what one thinks of Texas. They might be next.

    Texas is next.

I believe it is the socialist propaganda/programming starting K-12 and college. The only way to win this country back is to teach our children the truth. Also kick the socialists out of our school system. In 20 years or less we will be full blown socialist country. They win because they took over the school systems across the country.

Good. They need some good door to door confiscation there. Maybe it would wake some people up.
I still talk to too many hunters that think only their guns should be legal.

Something that amuses me is what happens when bans are imminent. A curiously high number of people who gleefully voted for the legislators who are infringing on fundamental human rights suddenly decide they want to buy that kind of gun because "I won't be able to get it again." Before, guns and gun owners were the ultimate evil, yet now they want to own that kind of gun. And of course, they are still on the side of righteousness, it's just the "gun owners" who are bad.

Yup. More laws on top of the last round of more laws layered over the laws that already covered all of this and yup.....that will keep you safe.

We are so screwed. The stupid just keeps getting.....well.....stupider.

And the "leaders" in the D party, those seeking the nomination for President, are each trying to out-liberal each other. More "common sense" gun control on top of the piles of free stuff they want to hand out.

Murder and robbery are already pretty illegal. Adding more gun laws, as you aptly note, aren't going to make a whit of difference to someone who would commit those crimes.

I genuinely believe that, if we are to ultimately prevail, it will be in the courts. This thing will need to be decided in one of the big Federal ones, and then the Supreme Court. That is why I think this next election is maybe the most important one we've had in a while. If the Supreme Court would ever rule a ban unconstitutional, it would then take an amendment change to get what they want; and that would be pretty much DOA.

The sure as hell better be a wake up call for the rest of the country, especially the purple states. I’ve said it before and I will repeat myself: there are some rights I will never give up because the government cannot take them because the government didn’t grant them. Enough said.

I agree, but I think it's deeper than that. We gladly sent our kids to indoctrination centers so our wives can bring in some extra income. We sold out.

Virginia gun owners going to pay a big price for sleeping on their rights.

I've followed their efforts very closely this year, and I am very saddened by their loss. VA gun owners were so much better organized than IN gun owners are. If VA gun owners slept on their rights, IN gun owners are in a coma. However, you are right, the active contingent was a small fraction of the total VA gun owners.

I think this sums up the political climate in general. It isn't anything new but has been forming for a few years now. Control high pockets of population and you control the whole state, nation. As much as I hate it, I do believe in the long haul its inevitable and the country some of us older people grew up in will be just a footnote in history.

Two comments on this, we must never allow the Electoral College to be abolished, that would allow these densely populated areas to control the country. Second the people leaving states like California and Illinois leave because of liberal policies they have voted in. Then they go to a more conservative state and vote for the same policies they ran away from. I do not understand these people, I guess they are just too stupid to learn.
My wife and I are getting out of Illinois because of these liberal policies, corruption, state debt and current and future gun laws. Most of these problems come from the Chicago area liberals and us people living downstate have no way of changing anything. The new Illinois state "Gun dealer licensing law" has already run over half of the gun dealers out of business. This was conceived and voted in by Chicago area democrats (and a few turncoat republicans) while my small town has been holding fund raiser raffles giving away firearms including a .50 BMG. Just another example of what happens when highly populated urban areas dominate a state. Jim.

Unless the count has swung back the other way, I saw where Matt Bevin lost the governor's race in KY. Good thing for Kentucky gun owners that they got their constitutional carry bill passed last year because I don't think it would happen next year.

His loss also goes to show you most people that call themselves conservatives or even lean that way really aren't. I mean they are, when it comes to cutting other peoples' favorite programs but when it comes to theirs...not so much.
