My girlfriends dad knows I am into guns, and asked me to find him a slug barrel for his pump shotgun. All he knows to tell me is that it is a Mossberg 500 .410. Looking on Mossberg's site I can't find anything that claims it is a slug barrel for a .410 does anyone make one, and if so can anyone here point me in the right direction. Thanks.

The only .410 that Mossberg has is in their 500 Bantam series pump action. It's a 24" with a fixed/full choke.. Not a slug barrel.. :ugh:

    Sorry

Actually, they also make a PGO .410 with an 18.5" cyl barrel (#50455), as well as a home defence model with a larger than bore choke (#50359).

Now, I'm in the middle of a similar quest to find a non-restricted barrel for my 500 field (24" vent rib). I doubt the #50359 will fit, because its a different capacity, but the cruiser barrel may.

My girlfriends dad ... asked me to find him a slug barrel for his pump shotgun. All he knows to tell me is that it is a Mossberg 500 .410. . . .

Ok, now I'm curious what he wants it for. Do you know his intended application?

It should also be noted - I mic'ed a Winchester 3" .410 slug, and the actual diameter was .390".

The projectile is the same diameter as a full choke, so they don't actually shave down. Since slug loads are not being carried by a wad, I doubt you would see any real improved accuracy from a smooth bore barrel - in fact, it may be too loose. I suspect that the BEST accuracy would be attained with an extended full choke... but most .410s don't come threaded for chokes (a few high $$$ models do).

If you're looking for better accuracy, switch to a Brenekke style slug - at least those are drag stabilized.

Looking at the date of the original post, I'm guessing it was to go deer hunting. Some people do use them to deer hunt...but you need to know your stuff in order to be successful.
