    1942 SVT-40, 7.62x54r. 10 round detachable magazine.

Found this one a year or so ago when a local guy was selling a few rifles. I didn't know what it was at the time so I did some research and found out how cool it was, and how rare as well. The price was right so I finally picked it up recently. All numbers match, even the stampings on the stock.

He 'thinks' he might have the bayonet for it, but time will tell.

Can't wait to try it out, thats for sure! :rockwoot:

Nice! It's on my "someday list", for sure.
I bet you get all kinds of inquisitive stares when you take it to the range.

Looks nice wood has it been refinished. The 2 that I have owned had real heavy shelac on them. Great find, They are a blast to shoot and fairly accurate.

Thanks everyone! I just got back and looked at it again, and turns out I screwed up the date. Its actually a 1942 build, which I think makes it a lot more rare than a 41 since they scaled back production in 42. All the better. :)

Very cool! The M1 Garand gets a lot of publicity for its role in the war, but the SVT was also a similar leap in technology for the Ruskies. I'm officially jeoulous! :D

US Patriot - The SVT 40 actually precedes the SKS and AK47 (and later variants) a semi-auto battle rifle by almost a decade. If I'm not mistaken, the Dragunov adapted the AK47 design concept back into a full power rifle cartrige, where as the SVT 40 was originally designed around the full power 7.62x54r round and uses some very different operating mechanisms.

Very Cool....10 years ago they could be had at Classic Arms for $229.00, I should have bought a dozen. Congrats on the find!

Man, I'm jealous. I've had one of those on my want list for quite a while now. I really can't put my finger on any one thing about it, but, to me anyway, it's one of THE coolest weapons ever.

My friend and fellow INGOer akaindy had one of those once upon a time. It was a beast to shoot and reliability was less than stellar, but it was way, way cool.

Here it is at a Memorial Day shoot a few years ago:

    That's hot, Clay!

Definitely a "rare bird", especially for 'round these parts.

Question: Detachable mag. or not? If detachable, now begins the hunt for a few more mags!

I Love the SVT-40, I bought two a lot of years ago, one I shoot the other one has been through two gun smiths and they say it's not been fired and looks like new it stays in the vault, they are really nice rifles, shoot fairly well, the bayo's have been seen for about 200 bucks, have you tried finding magazines for it yet? cheapest one's I found was 75 dollors each from a guy in tenn. A good looking one like your's is usually a pretty high dollor item, good buy even if you shoot it, the value will remain:rockwoot::rockwoot:
