I recently acquired an IZZY M91. I don't know much about it other than it is in fact an M91, NOT a 91/30; also, that it was manufactured at the IZZY arsenal. Then gun is in overall pretty good condition, clean bore, except it is missing the hand guard on top of the barrel. There is no date stamped anywhere on the gun, and all numbers match.

I would like to know about what these guns are worth, if any one could shoot me a general number. I know they are by no means rare, and from my research, they are worth about the same, or a tad more, than the 91/30.

I'm not looking to sell, but if I could hear a ballpark price of its value in fair condition, and maybe some info about its origins, when they were made, etc.

I'll try to get pics up soon.

With out pics, I say $200 max. If you take it apart and look under the tang and you can verify it's an antique then the number can go up to $250 or more.

I've had it apart to give it a thorough cleaning. It seems to be a plain jane M91 izzy.

However, it doesn't seem to have any import marks like my other mosins. I don't know if this would affect the value.

Pics should be up in minutes.

Hmmm, I see a [SA] on the side of the barrel, and that certainly looks like a Finn stock. Anyway, on the underside of the tang there should be a date and arsenal mark there that should tell when and where the receiver was made. Since it has the Imperial eagle on the barrel shank and proof commission mark on the top receiver flat, its pre 1917. More than likely, it was in a arsenal in Finland and when the Finns got their independence from Russia, and since I don't see any Civil Guard marks, it then entered service with the Finnish army. Since those are early barrel bands, it is quite possible a handguard wouldn't fit and never had one after the Finns restocked it. As far as value, its really hard to tell from pics alone, but I would say $175 to $250.

That SA stamp means it was in the Finnish military at some point. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the stock looks Finnish as well, as does the front blade site. That's a nice find you have there. We have 3 Finnish Mosins (M91, M91/30 and M39) and they are the best shooters of the 8 Mosins we have. There is a very good chance that the gun you have saw action during the Winter War with Russia. Do it a favor and some day this coming winter, take it to the range on a cold day with blowing snow and let it re-live some of it's past glory. My favorite Mosin is my M91/30. My son's is his Westinghouse M91. Both are an absolute joy to shoot and when you shoot the thing from a prone position while lying in snow, fingers frozen, they are truly hard to beat.

This is really great information, I appreciate your analysis. I will for sure shoot it when I see blizzard conditions. I have only shot a few rounds through it. I haven't really got a chance to compare to my other Mosin.

Again, thanks all for the info, this is really cool stuff I'm hearing, makes me excited that I got a good one.

I got this for dirt cheap at a local shop, so its nice to hear that it has a little more history than I originally thought.

Also after a peek under the tang, I was able to locate a date that I had not previously seen.

The date marked: 1900r (has the bow and arrow symbol above that, which I believe is the IZZY arsenal mark)

I would value around $130.00 -$165.00 because its missing the handguard but that is easy enough to find and due to having the Finnish [SA] stamp the finnish replacement handguards out there would be more correct for this rifle. I have one very similar to yours that has the date scrubbed but the tang date is stamped 97 so I lucked into an antique for "dirt cheep" a few years ago. Thanks for sharing

I can't add too much to the other information about this rifle, but the origianal design is without the handguard. The handguards were added after Ivan burned his fingers trying to bayonet some starving civilians!:):

Most shops don't know when they run across a rare Mosin. We found our Westinghouse M91 on the rack at Bradis for $120. It was missing the handguard as well but a friend had a spare that he gave us. The handguard is different on the M91 and has small metal tangs that fit under the barrel bands.

    Hello,

If you ever decide to sell it, please let me know. I love those and have never seen one in person!

As was mentioned, the rear sight is graduated in Arshins. This is an archaic unit of measure based on a soldier's stride, or about 28". Makes a lot of sense if you're going to pace off the range!

Very, very nice Sir. I'm envious.

    Regards,

    Josh

I think maybe 200 max. How many arsenal marks are on it?
