So I bought one of the bargain VZ58 clones from Palmetto. I shot it at the range once and quickly realized 2 things: First, the folding stock sucked, it has already been replace with a fixed polymer from czechpointusa. Second, the beaver-barf handguard got excessively warm, to the point of being non-useable with bare hands. What handguards are working well for people? I don't see a ton of choices available but I am thinking about a handguard made by Bonesteel, but it's pricey. I don't plan to add a lot of mall-ninja attachments, but I could see adding an angled foregrip if the heat issue remains a problem.

Finally, what is a recommended source for quality magazines? Are there any low-cap mags available? Maybe something like a 10-rounder for shooting from a bench or hunting.

    Thanks

Doggydaddy went through this same trek. In this link from page 9 on you can see what he did to correct these same issues.. And I do agree this gun was a pain to shoot with that folding stock and it did get hot..

Now on the other side read this review, this guy blew through 700 rounds with the folding stock and put up with the heat and folding stock..

So I am torn, do you go the route DD did and completely change the look of the gun for a easier shooting platform.. or do you keep the neat look of the folding stock and as the Duke would say.. "Man up Pilgrim and make it work"

I bought the whole stock set, but here is the hand guard that came with it, and I'm very happy with it.

    SA VZ-58/CZ-858 Handguard Rail System

It ships from Israel (but they ship a lot faster than Palmetto State! :):).

Here is one source for mags, but I don't see any 10 rounders...

Zahal has 10 rounders, but they're a little pricey... http://www.zahal.org/products/sa-vz-58-10rd-double-stack-magazine

Their 30 rounders are actually cheaper... http://www.zahal.org/products/sa-vz-58-30rd-double-stack-magazine1?path_parent=153453

You might also check ebay or gunbroker for mags.

There's a North Eastern Arms rail that is pretty good, from what I've read. Only problem is that I haven't been able to find it available or reasonably priced (I'll give it an hour before someone refutes me there)
