I would check out gunbroker.com for similiar rifles to get a value. Cugir is who made the rifle (in Romania), and the year of manufacture is in the number located on the front trunnion.

    Welcome to the group!

    :welcome:

The WASR line of rifles have been imported by Century since approximately 1999. Most have a date stamp as part of the serial number, but there were some variations built using older Romanian parts with the date stamp from those parts but not true to the actual date of build which was recent.

I believe WASR translates from Wassenaar Agreement Semi-automatic Rifle. They were/are imported with receivers only able to use single stack special mags, but once in the land of shall not be infringed, Century, or one of their distributers open the mag well to accept standard AK mags.

Most are very nice rifles, although you can find a time when Century had issues getting good ones out. Most of the later ones fall on the nice side.

It may be market WASR, WASR 10/63, SAR-1, GP-1975...

The receiver surely says more than Cugir. Left and right sides, maybe the bottom?

Yup pics will help determine value to an extent,
    also

    How is the barrel?
    keyhole?
    matching parts/mixed?
    furniture match? tapco?

If its the SAR 1, which was produced under the "assault weapons ban"most of these came in mixed matched, chrome lined, reinforced dimpled receivers, non threaded, welded break, made for 922 compliance, the 2001-2004 models a rumored to be of better quality and demand a higher value than the 1999-2000 versions, and so on.

lets see that info and pics later.

IMo if everything is in great shape, the rifle didn't have severely, canted, front sights and horrible trigger slap
"as these were known to have" mixed parts, NO altercations made to the original rifle

399-475 beat up but still kickn ass.
A fresh can of black krylon certainly wont make it a 600$ ak.

yeah, pics would be great. Multiples pictures including both sides of receiver, close-ups of any words, the whole rifle, muzzle end, etc.

WASR's are the bottom-of-the-hype-barrel, basic AKM rifle. Nothing fancy or top-of-the-line, just a solid rifle that goes *bang* when you pull the trigger. CAI has a crew of drunken monkeys in charge of QC on some shifts, so they have a reputation of canted sights and gas blocks. If you find a good one that doesn't have these issues, it will run forever.

I think they typically run in the $400-$500 range. Ignore the taticool-ed $900 WASR's you see idiots trying to pawn off on you.

    Not entirely true.

Century is only the importer on the WASR rifles. They are actually built/assembled at the Curir factory in Romania. The only thing Century does is make the rifles 922r compliant for standard capacity (30 round) magazines, ie opens up the mag well, and installed enough parts to meet 922r. Thats is all. Any gas block issues or canted sights are on the Romanians.

That's why I said "QC". QC doesn't build anything, they just are there to check and make sure everything's kosher. It's the drunken monkeys in Romania that build them off, and the drunken monkeys at CAI that pass them.

Here's an interesting factoid: 100% visual inspection usually runs about 80% effective.

The "SAR-1" was engraved on the rifle for reasons I can't answer, but they were and are really nice versions of a true AKM in semi-auto. Unlike the WASR which started life with single stack receivers, the SAR-1 was all original standard magazine AKM. They were imported from 1999 to about 2004 when ATF decided that you couldn't import a non-sporting rifle and convert it here. It had to be imported in full second amendment violation sporting purpose.

Date codes were the last 2 numbers of the serial as "99" for 1999, or the full year for 2000 thru the rare 2004.
