I've been looking into getting a Remington 1100 for my next shotgun but the price is out of my budget. The best alternative i found was the Remington 11-87. Its basically the same gun but without the blueing and polished wood stock. I havent got to shoot one so is there any drawback in quality from the 1100?

Depends on who you listen to. Also depends on the age of the gun. It's tough to beat an old 1100, but I've been very happy with my 1187. I pretty much use it for everything one would use a shotgun for.

    A. Home defense (most of the time) 20 inch smooth bore barrel with rifle sights and a thumb hole stock.

    B. Deer hunting. Same stocks, cantilevered barrel with a 3x9x40 scope. Good to 125 yds or so.

    C. Turkey hunting. Same stocks, 28" vented rib barrel with an undertaker choke. Wicked.

    D. Bird/ rabbit, etc.. vent rib barrel, wooden stocks. Adjust choke as needed.

I really like mine. Haven't shot it a whole lot yet though, couple of boxes of various types. Everything went bang and functioned perfectly and has less felt recoil than my 870

You should be able to find an older 1100 for $400-500. I'm pretty sure (haven't looked at current prices) that a new 11-87 is more expensive than a used 1100. I paid almost $600 for my 1980 1100, but it was near NIB condition.

I don't have any issues with an 11-87, if you plan on using it for hunting deer it would be there better choice in my opinion... I have hunted everything deadeye mentioned with mine as well as some waterfowl and dove. The only reason mine doesn't get the use for anything but deer anymore is because I finally bought a Benelli. I've had several thousand rounds through my 11-87 and in all honesty I still like letting it rip on some clay pigeons every now and again... Being my first shotgun I just can't not love it!

11-87 is a solid all around shotgun. I posed this to some LEOs a couple years ago and they steered toward the 11-87. My dad sold his a while ago to trade up, and it had a beautiful wood stock. When he talked to his FFL, the FFL said he had 2 guys fighting over it the 1st day on the shelf.

The only 1187 I've had was a Police model and a Special Purpose deer rig, but I really liked them. Very reliable, and fun to shoot. If you want to shoot super light game loads though, you might want to step into something that uses the BenellI Inertia system. I had a Franchi I-12, and it would cycle absolutely anything with ease.

I really like my 1187. It is my go to shotgun. I have barrels for it to do everything from hunting deer to shooting clays. I have retired it from home defence duty and use a 870 that was built just for that. In the past I had thought about getting a Benelli but why. The 1187 will do what I need dun for half the cost. I know it isn't the fastest action out, but I don't need the fastest action.
