Does anyone have experience with one of these HD shotguns? Rural King has them for
159 bucks. Thats pretty good if shotgun works. Or should I pay the extra 90 bucks and
    get a Maverick?

If it were me and my money, I'd get the Maverick.

Higher liklihood for SOME aftermarket parts to fit.

Or save up for just a tad longer and get a used M500 or Rem 870.

Personally, I'd save a little more and buy a used 870. Proven platform with.... ~66 years experience. Also less moving parts than its Mossberg counterpart, the 500.

Either way if its ATI, don't buy. If price is an issue buy used.

I have 5 870's, only bought one new, back in 78. Mossberg people can say the same.

The thing about "cheap guns" is there's no way to tell if you're getting the good ones or the ones that were made while the QC guy was on a smoke break. Typically the cheap stuff can be tough as nails and a great deal for the money or it's a piece of junk... but you don't get to decide!

I have no experience with that particular model. I have had a few "cheap guns" and been pretty impressed by what I got for the money but I've had a few that were what I paid for. I tell folks to only spend as much money as their purpose calls for. If this is just a beater gun and a good thing to take to the range, by all means, buy one, beat it up, and have fun with it. If you're going to put it next to your bed for things that go bump in the night.... I hope it works. Personally, my life is worth a bit more than $159.
