I received a AR upper in 7.62x39 for Christmas and it actually came with a standard stock, buffer tube, and spring so all I really need is a lower and parts kit to make a whole new rifle.

I am considering saving that money and just swapping this upper with my 5.56 upper when I want to shoot 7.62. This would allow me to put more money into optics or other accessories if I choose.

My question is for those that have a 7.62 AR did you have to increase the hammer spring to stop light primer strikes. From what I have read getting the right mags is the biggest issue with 7.62 on the AR platform so I researched and plan to buy some ASC mags. The other issue that some have had is light primer strikes which is an issue mostly with Russian ammo. Half the reason to own a 7.62 AR is the cheap ammo so I want to know if I would likely need a dedicated lower for this rifle?

    I built a 7.62x39 AR a few years back.
Used a standard DPMS LPK and have not had a single issue with light primer strikes.
I'm shooting nothing but Russian surplus.
Yes, mags are the biggest issue I have run across with this gun.
After a few failed attempts I finally found mags that work.
For me, CProducts mags are the answer.

Switching your uppers back and forth should not be an issue.

I have had no issues with light primer strikes with mine. I did need to get a stiffer extractor spring to get reliable cycling. Now it works great!

    Thanks for the input.

I was on PSA's site last night and they have their blem lowers for $50 again so I decided to just go ahead and build a new lower. I plan to just use a standard lower kit as well.
