I want to put a rig together that is able to hit a target at 1000 yards. I have started with a Remington 700adl 30-06. Today I took another step with a Vortex Viper 6x24x50 scope with a 20moa EGW base and Warne rings from AA Optics.

Next up will be a Magpul Hunter 700 stock and a Timney trigger.

Magpul announced the long action version of the Hunter yesterday. It'll probably be several months before its actually available but it is in the works.

Your rifle setup is capable. Get a spot in scope and a lot of ammo to practice.

I have shot 250 yards with this gun and a cheap scope (longest I could shoot do to range length). I plan to go to 440 yards then 880 and out to 1000 yards. One step at a time.

Put the Timney 510 in and it won't stop raining, can't wait to shoot it and see if there is a noticeable difference. Still waiting for Magpul to release the Hunter in long action

I do not know how much elevation your scope has in addition to the 20 MOA you are getting from your scope mount. If you can get it to shoot about 48 inches high at 100 yards, you will have plenty to work with. Exact come up is dependent on your ammo selection. The 30-06 is a little easier than the 7.62 X 51 because the added muzzle velocity keeps it supersonic all the way to 1000 with no worries. 175 grain BTHP's are your firend. Good Luck

how are you doing so far? How far out have you gotten? Are you learning to use your equipment, or just walking it in at distance? I ask because I'm on the same path, though I'm not getting out to shoot much this season.

He should have about 54 MOA travel left from a 100 yero.

On an average summer day with calm winds and a 175gr projectile leaving the barrel at >2,600 fps, you should only need 36 minutes of elevation to get within 16" of your target center (keep in mind that would be 1.6" at 100 yds). When you add that much elevation to the scope, you'll need a higher cheek rest. I've used one of these with very good results.
