    So, here's the scenario.

You have 2k to get a new general purpose rifle. General purpose meaning, Home Defense, Truck/vehicle rifle, trail rifle, etc.

    What do you choose?

Hard mode: no AR's or AK's.

I've been kinda torn between the Steyr AUG, PTR91 SC, CZ Bren 805 S1, and the Beretta ARX100. All have pros and cons that differentiate them from each other.

What say you INGO, What would you get for 2k?

Springfield M1A IMHO, but of your list I'd be tempted to go with the PTR91 due to low cost of magazines.

I personally don't care for the ergonomics of bullpups like the Steyr.

I know you are saying "hard mode" but those would be your best two options. You could get a BCM optic and light for that price... That being said if I had to buy something else I'd consider a Bren but in all honesty I may choose a Scar.

You will have to pick up on whatever fits you/your needs/etc. and so on.
all around rifle past an AR or an AK is a niche you will personally have to fill.

    Mags-expense/availability
    accessory's the same issues.

For 2K just for the basic gun or the gun/optics/sling/ammo/mags and so on.

Hmmm...if I had $2K to spend on a rifle as described in your post, I'd just keep my Marlin 1894 .45 Colt for the purpose you describe, then turn around and sink that $2K into a pre-war Winchester model 70 in excellent condition, probably chambered in 7x57 Mauser.

Personally Id buy another AK 47 or 74, But since thats not an option, It would be hard to not get a M1A but thats not really my idea of a good HD weapon.

I would have to say Id probably spend that money on an MP5 in this configuration, I know little about them and if thats even a 2k budget. But none the less I want one.

A lot of cool responses. Some I wasn't even expecting. Keep this going, guys.

I decided to bar AR's and AK's because they are an obvious choice and the market is absolutely flooded with both right now. It nice to have choices.

Do you consider a Galil ace to be an ak? If not I will take one of those in 5.56 when it hits the market.
If you do consider it an ak I will take a PTR91. Cheap mags and deer legal.
