So I keep hearing about a "truck gun". I travel a long commute to work and I've been thinking about putting an AR or something in my car, the trunk, locked up of course and maybe even an AR pistol to keep it short and compact. I want to know what's everyone's opinions about such a concept and would anyone do it?

    And what's your "truck gun?"

Kahr PM40 and a H&R Pardener Protector with a pistol grip. I had a Smith 642 also but the wife wanted that one for her vehicle. And additional rounds for all of them.

Why not go the traditionalist route and get a lever action carbine, preferably in either .357, .44 Magnum, or .45 Colt?
Pair it up with a revolver of the same caliber and you'll need only one type of ammo for both.

If i'm working (armed security) in a bad area I will sometimes throw my good ol' 870 in the trunk. I have a 7.5" AR pistol that I just recently built that I will eventually use as a trunk gun (Don't have a tuck), however it isn't quite working right yet.

Here's the perfect Truck Gun, fits nicely into Ruger Takedown bag with spare mags and ammo.

Marlin Papoose and a $100 pawn shop Winchester M94.

I like the Papoose as it stows very compactly. I like the M94 as it is very flat, no mags, optics, bipods, no extra crap to screw with.

The M94 wears a Lyman #66 ghostring, a sling, and an Andy Langlois butt cuff.

When I get time, I'm going to add cutouts for the magazines, spare magazines for my carry pistol (M&P .40), and a spare pistol (Taurus PT92) with magazines.

This is my AR-10, "Black Betty", in .308.

That is a nice setup. Do you cover it with anything?

    Cover it?

The top of the truck vault has the same carpet as the Escape. So if you look in through the windows, you just see a floor.
I placed a dehumidifier in there. The one that shows color, pink or blue. If it changes color to indicate saturation, I put it in the house, plug it in, it dries out. Then I put it back in.

    Is that what you mean?

Instead of worrying what someone can do to me, I'd rather worry about what I can do to someone doing me or mine harm.

Notice the rifle goes corner to corner.
Black Betty is full size, and the stock is set to where I like it. I didn't retract the stock, or go with shorter barrel
If you wanted, a smaller AR, or a pistol caliber carbine would fit better.

I see the carpet, very nice. I was talking about something to cover the rear facing lock, brackets, drawer pulls and "Truckvault" logo when you open the tailgate?
